To be fair to the dealer, we had two reps dealing with us throughout this transaction. The first one knew his stuff but, on the day we spoke to him, we weren't able to try out any units. When we attended to have a bit of a play, another rep met with us. The paperwork was then signed with the first rep some time later.
During the discussions with the first rep, purchasing an ex-demonstrator was never mentioned. When we met with the second rep, the focus was purely on which model of tractor would be best for our needs and the prices of new tractors and their implements.
It was the first rep that I spoke to today and I do believe that he genuinely believes that we had discussed purchasing the ex-demonstrator with the second rep (we didn't).
This dealership has a first class reputation locally and I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and accept that it was a miscommunication between the two reps. I would have preferred them to simply fess up and accept that this is what happened but, as they are prepared to give us what we agreed upon, I am not too concerned that they haven't come completely clean about what happened.
The nearest other dealer is an hour and a half away. I guess that time will tell if this is an example of things to come.
