I would like to know who stops at weigh stations hauling their tractor . I have hauled my tractors on a 18ft trailer with pickups between VA and NC and have never stopped at one . Am I just lucky or what ? I know laws differ between states and was thinking on picking up a tractor in Ohio . My truck is a 4X4 Tundra 2010 , empty trailer is 3,000 lbs , tractor would be 4,000

I have pulled over 20 states or so with trucks upto a 1 ton Diesel and trailers upto 25,000# and never stopped and have never been stopped.

I do get over width permits if needed but usually don't bother till it hits 9'. The law is usually 8.5' max.

Absolutely not. Even when pulling the 3 axle gooseneck. Never had a problem and I would guess they would give you the "what are you doing here" look. Trust me if they think you should stop, they WILL let you know. Unless some state enacted a new law [and needs money] I would never stop with a pick up pulling a tag for personal use. CJ

Depends on the scale. There are definitely times of year where they say "ALL" vehicles over 10,000 lbs, must scale. They typically will not come out to chase private vehicles or hotshotters, in fact I've never seen it. Then there is the matter of scale etiquette, which is probably why they don't care if you do a fly bye.

Thanks , that's good to know. Someone had just told me they were pulled over in MD in a pickup with a empty trailer for not stopping , MD would not be in my route anyway but was concerned about other states

Must have been a RAM pickup...

After 26 years of driving commercial trucks, the only state I have ever seen DOT mess with POV's is Fla. When they put the all vehicals with trailers sign out , you stop or they will chase you down. Not just P/U's but cars as well.

Many years ago (about 1974) I pulled onto the scales at one of the weigh stations in Arkansas when I was driving a little motorhome. The guy waved for me to go and he also said I didn't need to stop in a motorhome. I told him I knew that but just wanted to know what the rig weighed, and he told me what it weighed.

Then many years later, I believe it was in Wyoming that had a sign for "all trailers" to stop, so I did (pulling a travel trailer) and was told that sign doesn't apply to RVs.
