L3800 sick?

Dano,

I think my L3800 is running fine. However, if I am in the wrong speed range (always high gear) and try to start our or climb too steep a grade then I will loose RPM and speed. I can be running right along just fine and as grade increases I start losing RPM's. Most often I set it at the mid range for working and snow plowing. RPM's come back when I let off gas peddle and of course pushing the clutch takes all the load off and the engine returns to correct rpm's.

Good luck
This does it on flat ground, no load, and in low gear or medium. No place around here to use high. But that is exactly how
it acts.

Check the brakes to see if they are partly set on???

Forgot, I tried that. Put it on a hill, holding the brake on, put it in neutral and mashed the clutch, let of the brake and it
rolls free and stops when the brakes are applied. Don't think that's it. Got a better way to test them?

Yep, checking the brakes sounds too simple, but have seen this happen.

Mine never loses more than a couple hundred rpm and that takes a heavy load to do. No HST here though...

Before I took it in for service, mine didn't either. :( Makes me wonder about taking it in to be fixed now.
I mean, a simple warranty service should not have done this. If it's their fault doing a simple service, how
can they be trusted to do anything major. I will say, I went to this particular dealer because of their good
rep with everyone I talked too. I realize anyone can make a mistake so maybe bleeding the system will
take care of it. If this dang rain would let up so I could get a couple hours work in, I'd know.

Again, Change the Filter.

The bleeder knob is a small round gray knob just above the injector pump make sure it is closed (clockwise).. There is no fuel shut off valve on that particular model. I am not sure what the problem is but it sounds like fuel starvation.

Something similar happened to my 3540. The RPMs would go down to 1700 if it was set at 2200. In high range it would not get up to speed and seemed low on power.

I changed the fuel filter and problem solved. It was a year old with 100 hrs.

Dano,

I know you will get through this problem. I had a few issues with mine when new and around the 50+ hr. mark. You will really like the tractor in years to come. Just wanted to pass on a couple of things that bothered me with the L3800.
Suddenly it didn't want to start. I'm way out on my acreage, tired out, with a new tractor and it won't start. After a few tries and some time it starts. Next few day's same problem. So I'm ready to call my dealer and get help when I decide to regrease the HST peddle and hand wiggle it back and forth. No more starting issues! Turns out that the peddle must be centered up so if it isn't greased well it has trouble doing that.
Second is that little safety flip switch under the seat (the one the lawyers designed). During cold weather PTO on or off, SEAT up or down no matter, if I wasn't sitting on the seat the tractor would shut down. :hissyfit: I haven't figured it out yet but, when the tractor warms up then all starts working the way it should.

Again I am really happy with this tractor,

Could you tell me what to
look for?
Thanks,
Dano

Forum wise I'd look for how to lose the all bold font? That's the second cousin to all Caps and kind of hurts my brain. (It brings to mind shouting)

You basically have a brand new tractor with a real problem. You referred to your dealer as a Stealer. Have they stolen from you in the past? Have you had a civil conversation with them about your problem? It doesn't matter if it's something they did or something else. You have a new tractor that doesn't operate properly and a negotiated solution should be well within reach. 120 miles is 120 miles (my dealer is 1,200 miles away) but if you are not working this out with Kubota's customer level representative, the Dealer, you are not taking the best route to a solution.

With all due respect, I'd get over the attitude with your dealer and find out how they and Kubota can assist in fixing your warrantied tractor.

I had problems with my 3800, it started fine but going up our drive it bogged and died. It lost rpm just like you said. My fault because it had summer fuel left in it and it was January, I added Power Service and let it idle for a few and then went on with clearing snow. I added 2 gallons of Kerosene and some 2 stroke oil and alll was fine. Now it has Winter fuel so I added Power Service but no Kerosene and it is fine. How old is your fuel? If it's not that then call the Dealer, they should be happy to take care of this and keep the good rep you say they have

Sounds crazy but I had a grader blade in the back of mine. When I set the height all the way up to lift it it took all the power from moving. Lowered the handle and tractor takes off. My lift needs to be adjusted for that. Same with my snow blower on the back. Lift all the way up and kills power to transmission. Other than that I agree with fuel filter and call dealer. Mark
