Briefly running engine in garage

For when the vehicle is driven into the bay? Some shops have a system for when they run the car in the bay, but MOST smaller shops dont (or if they do, its just a flex pipe that runs to a hole in the wall/door).
I have NEVER seen a shop that has a system to suck out the exhaust of a car that is being pulled into or out of a shop.

I was at my GMC dealer last week and they have drive up service; honk the horn, they open the door, you drive in, they take it from there.

Anyway I started thinking that this garage bay environment is probably not the best place to have 3 desks with people working 10 hr days. It would be interesting to get some readings when a vehicle pulls in and readings over that 10hr period with a marker every time a vehicle pulls in/out.

No offense, but don't you think the building architects thought of that? As well as the local officials who have to grant an occupancy permit, approve the design, etc.?

Apparently, you didn't read the post by lostcause that you quoted in your post which was specifically talking about driving cars in/out of the shop (bolding mine):

i'm not disputing the dangers of co, nor am i trying to downplay the seriousness of it, and i am certainly not trying to make fun of, or offend anyone, but this whole thread and some of the replies have taken me by surprise to say the least. i was floored by people talking about pushing tractors in and out of garages. i'm still processing it, and i have yet to wrap my head around it. i've never heard of this until now. every commercial garage has the mechanics drive the vehicles in and out many times per day. many of these mechanics in both small and large shops have been doing it for decades. if there were more than a couple cases per million where harm came from it, you can guarantee the personal injury lawyers would be running prime time tv commercials advising of a class action lawsuit against employers who had mechanics drive customer vehicles into a building. there has got to be a pretty good dispersal rate even in most garages or you would hear about it all the time.

Really? You're going to tell me what I read?! I quoted a post, doesn't mean I'm adding to the post, I was referencing it, and then stated that commercial shops use systems to suck exhaust from the tailpipe. You jumped to an erroneous conclusion about there being a system to do so while driving in or out.

Additionally, I don't think the shops that place the service writers in the vicinity of the cars/trucks, tractors, give enough, if any thought to the exposure levels the service writers are exposed to daily. It would be good if they did....

Usually, they have a power vent system that mounts to the tailpipe.

Generally, they hold their breath (or use their SCBA gear) as they drive in/out .

Actually yes, many fire houses have dedicated ventilation systems that are attached to the rigs as they go in and out. They typically attach with either an inflatable boot or a magnet. Systems start automatically with a barometric switch and run on a timer. Also SCBA is the appropriate term for firefighters' breathing apparatus.

They are so self absorbed that they wouldn't even think twice about anybody else but themselves lol.

In all fairness though the service people could have been moved into the space after final inspection...
