That mulitplexing makes sense. Amongst all the housekeeping required in a plan like that, I'd want to see some kind of "grid availability" data available, down at the car level. Meaning - if a mechanic needs to figure out if there is a charging problem with a vehicle, one thing he'd need to know is "Grid Availability %", for each of the last 20 or so charge cycles.

Otherwise, you can end up condemning car hardware, when the only issue was grid congestion.

Looks like we've found yet another use for standby generators....

Was just reading an article that talked research into non flammable dielectric to replace the one used in lithium ion cells. They found one that was much less flammable and had an unexpected enhancement. I might not have these next numbers right but it's something like, a regular lithium ion cell has a specification of 0.23 and this new on was something like 0.98. I don't recall what that measured, but 1.0 was 100% efficient something so a high number like .98 translated into energy density of close to gasoline and recharge time at a small fraction that is usual now. So in other words. High energy density and very fast recharge. I can't find the article, sorry.

I think better batteries are coming. Some being worked on are non-toxic, and don't rely on rare elements. There has been a lot of research going on for the past couple of years.

This might be good news, for folks in Alaska, or anywhere else where primary power is diesel...

Buoyant Airborne Turbine to harness winds in Alaska

Founders of the company were/are out of MIT. Sounds like their first field test was in your neck of the woods Dave... bit less of a drive than Alaska !

If these field tests go well, the ease and low cost of installation/deployment should help make this an easier sell, for the intended markets.

Shoot it down! Oops, wrong thread.

I missed that testing. Cool stuff if it works out.

This is a good Drone !

You have a point though, it wouldn't be the first time a drunk or bone-headed hunter shot at something like that. In this case, shooting at the source of the locals low-cost electricity in a remote area of the USA is starting to get into Darwin Award territory.

Old is New, again ?

Came across these guys in Popular Mechanics:

Uniflow Stationary Steam Generator

(Uniflow Power, Western Australia)

Decent product for the intended market - off-grid in remote areas. Nice that it can do more than just generate electricty.

Two potential steam uses not mentioned: Sauna. Steam injected briefly into a bread baking oven to give the loaves a crispy crust and more crumb expansion.

In northern climates, the engine and the supply water would have to be contained in a freeze-proof room/building.

Interesting way to to tap alternate fuels. Thanks.

You should be marketing this stuff Dave !

..... "For the discerning gourmand, this superbly designed unit can not only provide your off-grid estate with all your co-generation needs, it also allows you to tune your artisanal breads for the exact crumb expansion you desire !".....

:)

I've seen some really well engineered and executed mechanical products coming out of Oz.... I think I'll keep an eye on this company....
