Table Saw

Hang on now, are you saying that the civil rights movement is like a class action lawsuit against a table saw manufacturer?

The Civil. Rights. Movement.

When you say something that nonsensical I honestly have no idea what to think. The civil rights movement? Yeah, like let's repeal Obamacare! Then let's roll back the civil rights movement... Might want to rethink that one, my friend. I don't think you're gonna get too many people lining up to get behind that one.

Since we're quoting rock and roll songs...

"If you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow"

I don't think that's what he meant.

Dude, it started long before Obama. It started with the civil rights movement in the 1960's. When the Dems saw how well it worked with real victims, well they started looking around for more. So if they couldn't find any, the started to manufacture them with class warfare tactics. Couple that with a self-absorbed Boomer generation who determined their parents didn't know a dammned thing about raising kids and here you are.

Hmmm... If that's not what he meant, what on earth could he have meant.

Looks pretty cut and dried to me.

The simple solution to all the lawsuits is limit the contingency fees that the shysters are allowed to charge...
Even with medical etc. suits...if the lawyers were not allowed to take 30%-40%-50% of the awards there would be more $ for those who suffer personal/property damages...and less of a burden on insurance companies...
IMO they should not be allowed to charge more than 15% over expenses that must be itemized and approved by the overseeing judge...but as long as the foxes are guarding the hen house we'll never see that kind of legislation...

As for table saws...(have used them since I was about 13 years old)...one major cause of table saw injuries is lack of concentration and or being disturbed or interrupted while operating the saw...

IMO...It's paramount to make sure that anyone that has access to your shop has been informed not to disturb or interrupt anyone operating a power tool...

Have you ever received one of those class action letters? It's all a lawyers get rich scam.

First of all, you probably didn't even know you were in the class. Second, they make it very time consuming and lots of paper work to remove yourself from the class. 99.9% of people aren't going to take the time to do it.

So, eventually you get a check for $1.98, and the lawyers are making millions.

Ohh yes, and you're right that's about all you get... I toss them in the trash now, its a shame because one was with my 401K, I know I will never see a dime of my contribution, or the company's. Even though that company has changed names many times... I still refuse to work for them after all this time...

The danged drill press is downright EVIL sometimes!!

Yes I learn at around age 12 about holding a small work-piece down with your fingers when the bit breaks thru. My fingers actually bent up the piece of sheetmetal as it spun around. There was some blood, but no actual finger loss. I haven't, done it again. I guess the edges weren't sharp enough to cut them off or I just got lucky. Routers are not so forgiving, They just take out a chunk at 20,000 rpm:eek:

What I said and what I meant was that civil rights was about REAL victims. But after seeing how well it worked politically with REAL victims the Dems proceeded to categorize any group or minority they could as a victim and convince them that whatever impediment or detriment they suffered was somebody elses fault. Things like class action lawsuits don't spring unbidden, like Athena from Zeus' forehead, they follow a culture of victimhood brought about by larger societal and cultural ethos. Read the paragraph all the way through before you start analyzing.

There is no need to hurt yourself. Haven't you seen those ads to get you on disability?

"The left has indoctrinated a generation with the belief they are victims, entitled to the wealth of others." egbert

my oh my. who's playing the blame game now, just like the lawyers & "victims" of the accidents the OP cited? to think the class action/malpractice suits are a result of the "left" is a bit paranoid & simplistic. we are all guilty through the years of allowing the legal system to peruse these abuses that costs us all. that goes especially for malpractice medical cases that drive up the costs in all areas. it would be interesting to look at the political orientation of the big fat cat lawyers abusing the system of safety lawsuits....are they all left too? bet not!!!
remember, it takes both the left & right (hand) to safely operate any machinery & equipment :)

IIRC the table saw is the number one most dangerous tool in the woodshop. More people are severely injured at the table saw then any other power tool. Since the invention of "Saw Stop" there is a "better/saver way" to point to so lawyers have something to argue about. If you own the saw you have yourself to blame, however, if its the bosses saw then you can blame him for not having the "safest" saw available.

When I taught the kids how to use the table saw I stressed over and over that it was the most dangerous tool in the shop. I have a friend, old time carpenter, that is missing several portions of his fingers and thumb to table saws, he has offered living proof of the consequences of ignoring "safety first".
