Log splitter build

In looking at your fittings use for the hyd, I would remove all the water pipe fittings as they are not rated for high pressure.

Otherwise looks like a nice clean build.

Thanks. Have been on this farm since 1979 when I bought it and personally built my house. Every one of my hydraulic cylinders over the years has been connected with "water pipe fittings" and high pressure, double wire wrap hydraulic hoses and some of them, after 35 years are still in use. Never had a problem. Why should I change now?

Just wanted to tell you that is the cutest log splitter I have ever seen. SA few more pic's would be great.

I would take JJ's advice on the water pipe fittings. some day 1 of them will blow, bad news.

I blew a flexible line on the back hoe this winter. The pressure cleaned out the ditch I was digging.

Was that comment concerning me? If so, what would you like to see? On cute, other pics of it look like a Model T Ford, I think and I agree on being cute. The best part is it's electric start.

On the pipe, I am not the least bit worried. You can google NSF and all and get numbers for WP and BP on iron pipe. As stated, every hydraulic cylinder I ever ran was with it and that has been a lot over the years. Besides, the normal pressure of this system is less than 300 and the high pressure is just a spike and less than 1/4 the BP of Sch 40 iron pipe.

I too have "blown" double wired hyd hoses but where they started leaking they deserved it. Was well past time for a new one.

I'm working on a log splitter as well. I currently have the wedge welded on and the axle as well as the push plate that pushes the log into the wedge.

All I need to do now is get a hydraulic pump and a valve and a cylinder and a few hoses and "That's the last and". lol and I'll have a log splitter.

I'll have to get a pic of it. It's built out of mostly junk I had laying around. But if she works than that's all that matters.
