Attended a funeral service yesterday for an 87 year old guy who was the father of my GF's really close friend, I never met him but knew the family from way back. Having attended numerous funerals over the past few months, such events always make me reflect on what my obituary is going to say when my time comes. And you know what? I really cannot think of anything notable to describe in my obituary except that I am a 7 gallon blood donor....

So, I worked at various jobs for 40 years, made a career of one job for 31, got a few steps up the ladder. Have always paid my taxes on time, never spent a night in jail. have been someone that could be depended on, and had a huge amount of handyman skills, and adopted several stray and feral cats and dogs. All well and good, BUT: There are untold millions of guys like myself, people who are just average fellows who did their job, paid their dues, built a good credit record, and loved their families and were loyal friends.

Try as I may, I am darned if I can think if there is anything in my life I feel is noteworthy enough to publish in an obituary. Sometimes I wish I did...but what do YOU want to be remembered for?

should it be more? you spent your life doing good things and did it well ... all those important to you will remember you for it ... an Obit is just a few words ... the most important are : good husband / friend / father / ( key word being GOOD ).... the rest doesn't amount to a hill of beans after you are gone.

that's all we can ask of someone ... be and do good.... and it seems you did just that.

Interesting reflections here and I've often pondered some of the same things myself. I won't ever be rich but I want my funeral to be a full house. I like what Ed of all trades said. In the end that's going to be the most important thing. And in the end that's what gives my life value.

My relationship with Jesus.

Me too. And because of that, I certainly won't be concerned with what's said about me at my funeral. Funerals are for the living, not the dead person. :)

Very true.

It's not so much the things you've accomplished in life, but the lives you've touched and people you've inspired along the way.

Never gave this much thought. I have no family, will not have a funeral and aside from knowing that I've never stolen from, nor cheated anyone I really don't GARA what I'm remembered for, if remembered at all. I guess it would be nice for whomever ends up with my machinery to be grateful I took such good care of it. :)

I think I would like to be remembered for my sense of humor. Might not be everyone's thing, but in this day and age, I think a lot of people have forgotten how to laugh or even smile.

And if not that, I really don't care what others think. At least I know that I tried to make a difference.

I don't want a funeral, and like ovrszd mentioned, I won't care what anyone says or thinks after I'm gone. Too late to fret about it then!
