berny

tell us how you will use your soon to be purchased tractor.

Snow removal?
Agriculture?
Forestry?

Also, are you budgeted for new or used?

What implements will you need at first?

Hi Cal
Bigest job cutting 3 acres of grass.
Then clean mi driveway
Part of the 3 acres is not level enough so need a box scraper i think, front end loader, snow blower.
Got 4 acres of bush so if there is time left clean up dead trees.
I want to buy new and keep it t'il i am to old to use it.

If you can afford it, get a cab, especially in snow country.

Most of the big names, Kubota, New Holland, John Deere, all make good machines. Other makes might be as good, but the dealer might not be established very well, and those dealers go away. I am partial to Kubota, they make all their own major components, engines, transmissions. I suspect Massey Ferguson might be popular in your area, they make some good stuff, just have to see if you are comfortable with the dealer. I am of the same mind, I don't ever plan to sell my machine. Btw, dad's people came from Quebec. Way back, tho!!

Have set a budget? My first thought is that a BX or similar size in another brand would do you. Smaller tractors generally take more time but not by much if your talking mowing lawn and clearing snow with a blower. When you get into ground engaging work, then traction which means weight, and ground clearance can be important. What will you be doing in the brush? What is the brush like?

johnthomas wrote up a good comparison betwee the BX and B series. If you can find that it might get you started.
