Buying Advice Small CUT or large SCUT Advice

When using my last tractor, I never used the little stop on the position control. I just kept my hand on the 3pt lever and made small adjustments while grading. If I was pulling too much, I'd make small increments up until I wasn't pulling so deep.

I just want to make sure I can make small adjustments. I do NOT want my blade coming out and dumping little humps of rock every time I try to raise it just a touch.

Well then maybe it's better to forego the dual peddles in favor of the position control. Nuff said? ...probably not nuff.

I'm only somewhat familiar with one style of manual position control, so this may not apply, but it sounds like you could get by with one. The type I've seen had an implement control lever that rested in a center position. If you push forward, the implement lowers until you return the lever to center. The farther forward you push, the faster the implement lowers. The opposite is true if you pull backwards to raise the implement.

Since it's an important primary task for you, I'd see if the dealer can set up the machine you're interested in with a blade or land plane for you to try out. That will be the ultimate answer.

That's exactly the way the J2023 is. The 3pt lever is like a aux hydraulic lever. It rests in a center position and will return there when let go of.

I think I may ask the dealer to hook up a box blade and let me try it. That's a good idea.

I had the "treadle-pedal" on my CK20. Since then I've had the "dual" pedal setup on various tractors. While I prefer the "dual" pedal design, once you're used to either, you'll be fine with it. Some guys here actually prefer the treadle-pedal, while others do not. I'm sure you won't mind it after 10-20 hrs.

I tried one on the older J2030 model. I didn't like the feeling that my right for wasn't flat on the floor like my left foot. It just felt like an awkward position to sit in for any kind of time.

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I would be interested mainly because it's located too far away.

I'm thinking about taking a half day off work tomorrow and going up and testing the 2023 some more.

Well turns out the dealer sold that 2023 that I had looked at. I can't seem to find a single dealer in reasonable driving distance that has one in stock that I could spend more time with.
