Aren't the timbers recycled? If so, wouldn't they be done shrinking if they are decades old?

The timbers for the frame were not recycled. Earlier in the thread I posted about an old barn that we did salvage some wood from. The pine on the wall by the stairwell came from the barn as well as the fireplace mantel. I've also cut some of the old sills for inlays in the wood floor when we lay it. And yes, my wife is much happier now.
Granite round two is over and we are waiting for round three. Unfortunately the cutout for the apron front sink was wrong. The overhang on the right side was short and left side was long. They decided to cut the left edge of the granite and shift the entire slab left to compensate. Before they did I let them know that would create a gap between the right edge of the granite and fridge surround. The fabricator assured me he knew what he was doing.
30 minutes later after cutting the granite and shifting it he asked me what color of caulk we wanted to use. He said when he shifted the granite left to compensate for the incorrect sink cutout it left a 1/4" gap on the other end next to the fridge surround. He tried to caulk the gap and it looked awful. Installer agreed that he wouldn't be happy with it so off it went. We are now waiting for the third slab to be cut and installed.

I thought the granite guys never missed a cut. Maybe the programmer missed a dimension.

Just saw this thread and read the whole thing today. WOW, what a beautiful house. And you got pretty good price on the Geo system.
I'm not sure what happened Kyle. They had the original templates that were made with them and the granite was clearly off compared to the templates. The templates lined up perfectly. Looks like we are looking at the end of next week or maybe the following for the re-install.
Thanks buckey. Its been a lot of work but also a very rewarding experience so far. I still think we may be in by the middle of next month although there is a lot of work left to wrap up in the next 4-5 weeks. Tile work has started and hardwood floors should start on Monday. All of my interior doors should arrive around the end of next week. Stone work outside should be starting as well.

Are you involved in reviewing the layout on the granite before they cut it? Are you inspecting the new slab of granite they are going to use?
We have several granite companies in my area, but the best one by far does a few things that the others don't. One of them is that they call you in to look at the slab with the template on it before they cut it. They want you to be sure that you are getting the best part of the stone and that you approve of how it will look once it's cut. This might not matter with some types of granite, but it's a huge deal with others. I've also found that the color varies a lot from slab to slab, even in the same rack going from front to back. Other colors, ugly flaws or a vein of some kind that isn't what you wanted. It took us a few weeks to find the perfect slab for my parents island because so many of the slabs had a flaw in them that we didn't like. The owner went to Dallas to look through the stone there and texted me pics of what he found, then brought several back to Tyler with him for us to look at before picking the one we liked the best.

jk, I think Eddie's granite experience could solve the issues you guys are having. Maybe if you can get your wife to pick it before it is cut, she won't have to weep anymore.
