Rebar cattleguard

those precast concrete ones look great. I remember back in the 1980's they used to PAINT alternating white and black stripes on the farm gate at college. the stupid cattle would refuse to cross it. This was on asphalt road. I always thought it was stupid, till i found out that my horse wouldn't cross it either....would always spook and spin. Durn critters

Google search for cattle guard plans and you will find plans drawn by various at schools to be shared thru ext services that are engineered and can be built from reinforced concrete and other materials.

I would be very surprised if that original deign would even stand up to a pickup truck, much less a cement truck.

Best bet would be to turn loose of some bucks and have someone that knows what they are doing design and build the cattleguard.

Lots of places just paint white and black stripes on the road surface at fence lines and it seems to work well.

Painted surfaces work with cows....maybe. Actual guards do.
Painted surfaces probably won't work with range cattle.....actual guards....maybe.

Thank you XFAXMAN....I was hoping somebody would mention the concrete guards. To the OP....if you want a CG that you can make out of easily obtainable materials from a home depot, this is the way to go. Form it up and use rebar to strengthen it. I’d used the higher PSI crete for it.

My 16x7 Precast concrete was cheaper than steel pipe.

We have two of them that have been installed for over two years now. Have had several loads of gravel and concrete delivery trucks use them, no problem.

Got them for $975 each from SI Precast Concrete - Agricultural Products
