Went to start tilling the garden today with my YM240 and noticed oil dripping from the breather before I even turned on the PTO, I checked the oil and it was really thin and way over-full. I drained it and there was almost 2 gallons in there, I know the crankcase only holds a gallon so there's a problem somewhere. The radiator is full so I can only assume it's fuel. I took a sample and it hasn't separated so I don't think it's water. I last used this tractor a month or so ago to move snow and it was fine then, so it's happened since. I put a gallon of oil in it and went ahead and tilled a section of the garden and it runs fine, no smoke. After running about 30min there wasn't any noticeable increase in the oil. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and only has maybe 200 hours on it since then. Any ideas what it could be?

Coolant, rain water, diesel, or hydraulic/transmission oil. That is your choices.

Most likely fuel from a leaking fuel pump. just turn off the fuel when not in use and get on with your life.

The radiator is full so I can eliminate coolant, it lives inside so it's never gotten rained on, the mix was way too thin to be hydraulic fluid but that's full as well so that leaves fuel.

I thought about that, do you think it's the injector pump that's leaking or is there a separate fuel pump on there? I probably should have shut the fuel off yesterday but wasn't even thinking about it.

YM240? The only fuel shutoff is at the fuel filter and the only pump is the injector pump.

Ok, so it's the injector pump - is there a seal on it I can replace or is it something internal and I need a new/rebuilt one?

BTW, what brand loader is that on your 240? I have one for mine that looks almost identical.

The loader is Great Bend model 20-something. I was told Great Bend was in Kansas, and was sold to a competitor - I think Bush Hog - several years ago who continued the brand name for a couple of years.

I think this loader was dealer-installed because the tractor also has the optional loader-ready HD front axle, built heavier and adjustable width. The control valve was AICO before I replaced it last year. Is yours AICO?

Injector pump internals? I dunno.

I thought it looked familiar - I sent you a PM

My valve is a Cessna...but I'm going to need to rebuilt this one or get a new one before I put the loader back on it.

Thanks for the note.

Cessna is in Wichita, no? I'll be surprised if that valve is rebuildable. I was quoted rebulding @ 3x the cost of a new valve. So I got a Prince valve. Amazingly, Amazon had this in stock at the best price I found.

Here's a longwinded thread where I discussed installing the new Prince valve. Post #22 has links to a coupe of photos at various angles showing the loader in use, if you want to compare to your loader.

Cessna Hydraulics was actually in Hutchinson, it was a division of the plane maker in Wichita though. The hydraulic side sold in the 80's to Eaton though. Unfortunately you're probably right on the valve.

Wow! That's a dissertation, but a lot of information...I'll definitely re-read it when I get ready to put the loader back on.
