Good things can get messy like having sex I guess.

That interface is an oil cooler as you can see the coolant lines hooked to it. I had a guy tow a Jeep 4.0 in once after trying to get the oil filter off he poked holes through the filter with a large screwdriver then ripped the oil sending unit off the filter housing. He came in the shop just covered in oil. I laughed as he was trying to save a few bucks unfortunately not the case after he paid my bill to fix er up. Still have him for a customer, he's a surgeon only we change his earl nowadays so he keeps clean :umbrella-guy:

Bet that new snowblower worked well for you last week.

Regards, Fred

The snow last week went north of me, leaving only rain and then about 1/2 inch of sleet/snow mixture.
Northern NH got the brunt of the storm. I'm sure that I'll have at least one more chance to exercise
the snowblower before the grass starts to grow. I remember one storm several years ago when we
received 18 inches of heavy wet snow on April 29, knocking out power for three or four days here.
Some of the houses on the road had their service entrances ripped right off from the weight of the
snow on the lines.

Poking a hole in the oil filter doesn't appeal to me, but the idea of placing a piece of cardboard, sheet metal or
the form-a-funnel sounds very workable.

I love the smell of hot oil burning down my arm into the pit in the morning!
The funnel gizmo seems like a good overpriced solution, though it seems it may have come down some in price since first brought to market.
No doubt the filter position could be better on many machines; but for cars/trucks and probably even tractors the manufacturers seem bent toward discouraging self-service to keep more $ in their dealer networks.
As with most things it's about controlling the flow of $, and we as the DIYers get the shaft.

I use a 2 liter bottle with the top cut off and part of the side cut out. Fit it over the loosened filter and finish unscrewing the filter letting it fall into the bottle along with the oil.

Wow! That's the best solution I've seen so far.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess it sometimes
pays to rant!

That's pretty clever and I'm going to try it. It won't fit all applications but it's a great start. Great solution.

I can't take credit for the idea. I saw it somewhere a few years ago. I thought it was here but it could have been a Kia or Honda site.
