John Deere On Most Ethical Company List

This may or may not affect anybody's buying decisions, but I thought it was interesting. John Deere was on the Ethisphere Institute's 144 most ethical companies in the world for the 8th straight year.
Here is a link to the whole list. Looks like JD is the only Tractor manufacturer on the list.
I was also happy to see the company that I work for (Johnson Controls) on the list.
I also found it interesting that there wasn't a single Korean company on the list.

Well, I don't know "exactly", but looking at some of the criteria on the website, it would seem reasonable to accept that there would be a cost to running a company to such a high standard.
Some of the criteria are: environmental stewardship, corporate philanthropy, human rights, accounting transparency, worker training, corporate litigation history, worker communication. written standards, internal auditing programs, etc.
It's good to see that JD isn't sacrificing their core values in the name of short term profits.
Probably the reason they have never went through bankruptcy, never been merged, bought, or anything of that nature.

Well, from a former dealer standpoint, they don't see very ethical. The way they have pushed out dealers, forcing purity yet putting their product in Lowes, cheapening their product reputation, yeah, pretty ethical.

I don't see control of dealer outlets and availability of product at non dealer outlets is an ethics issue and more part of marketing management. It may be a move that has other criticisms but not sure that falls in the ethics category. Selling a product that is known by the manufacturer as defective is an example of an ethics problem IMHO. I see that General Motors didn't make the list to no surprise to me what so ever.
