Oh yeah I don't care for where the OEM hyd. levers are in the 825. That joy stick is so handy!! Keep an eye out for a used joy stick controler and plumb in the separate spool vavles it works slick. Wreckers sometimes have them off of older tractors.
Our old 970 has been good to us we've had it since new in 1974 and its been a good haying tractor. It actually has its 40th birthday on this April  The 2090 while a nicer tractor to drive and decent cab for its age has had its share of "mechanical issues" lets just say.
Good thing its easy to work on and I fix stuff. It only has some 65xx hrs on it.
Problem though with the 970 is the hydraulic vavles are basically ON or OFF when under heavy load. Its not easy to "feather" the controls on the loader. Guy told me once people used to screw on extentions onto the leavers making them longer thus making it easier to for loader work. Never bothered though as I use the 825 now but still have a big old Leon loader for the 970 that we bought 30 years ago. Its a high lift model which is usefull but clumsy and visablity isnt' great on the 970 compared to the 825.
Back in 2007 I think it was I rebuilt the motor as it was using oil. Then I figured I'd paint it too while I was at it that winter. Well the paint job took way longer then rebuiding the motor!
