Kioti as OEM for John Deere?

Looking at https://www.deere.com/common/docs/our_company/about_us/worldwide_locations/worldwidelocations.pdf, John Deere shows production facilities in China but not in South Korea. I interpret this to mean that John Deere is producing its own tractors in China, rather than licensing that production to Chinese firms.

Ah so they make their own too. Steve do you know anything about S Korea not allowing anything into their country not made there? Pallets maybe?

I don't keep up with trade policy, but I do know that the South Korea is (and has been) a major importer of US ag. commodities and that South Korea has relatively new free-trade agreements with the US and the the EU. Pallets? I'm not so sure.;)

I have no facts to support my assertion. Just conversations with agents and citizens, and observations when I worked in Korea for several months. They import what they cannot make themselves, like wood products (the Janpanese destroyed almost of the Korean forests in WWII) and many Ag products. They are short on many natural resources, but not in industrial capability. When it comes to heavy equipment and similar (cars, tractors, ships, steel, etc.), they protect these industries. My conjecture is that the best way for JD to get a piece of this market is through partnerships with Korean companies. And I'm guessing this is mutually beneficial to the Korean companies that see a national demand for a niche product that doesn't make economical sense for them to produce single-handedly. Plus, I'm sure the U.S. is pressuring them to allow more U.S. imports, and this helps reduce such pressures.

It's a good thing for us owners of Daedong products.

I know, they made orange paint, (Kioti) White paint (Bobcat), Blue paint (Landini), Red paint (McCormack). and now GREEN? OMG..

Apparently, the paint store shipped them green by mistake, so they had to find a way to get rid of it.

When I traveled to Korea to visit the Daedong headquarters there was a yard full of Green John Deere tractors. It turns out that Daedong is the Korean distributor for John Deere and has a network of dealers. They mainly bring in the higher HP tractors that Daedong does not build themselves (120HP and up). They said there is a demand for the larger tractors and they import and distribute them for John Deere. That is the only arrangement I know of with the 2 companies, but anything is possible.

Correct Kioti Dave. Deere uses Daedong as a distributor for 6000 series in S. Korea. There is no Deere dealer presence in that region so Deere starts where Daedong stops. I was there (Dagu) 2 yrs. ago and stood next to a truck at the dock where they were loading one. It IS a Deere made by Deere sent to Korea. No Daedong is not making tractors for Deere.
