grease your balls or not

Because they end up banging up my vehicles. Had it happen to my BMW and last F150. Plus it's a shin banger.

Chris

You shouldn't walk that close to somebody else's vehicle anyway!

For me, it depends how soon I'm going to use it again! This is the first pickup I haven't had mine bolted in and the threads peened on the bolt. ~~ grnspot

Now the ball I'll be using is from 1964 so I don't think a rubber will be necessary but I think I may need to lube it up for this virgin trailer I'm about to pay for.

Be careful. A ball as old as yours will shrink with time and could slip out if put to much force.

I disagree. They are designed to come out after use.

Agreed. I tow a lot. I use my boat 2-3 times a week in summer. I use a bolt with a lock nut to make my hitch more or less permanent. And yes I grease my ball.

I tow just about every day and take mine out as soon as done. Not a big deal.

This one is for you Chris. I saw this yesterday, tried to snap a pick, but couldn't get to the phone fast enough. I came up behind a Chevy Colorado yesterday at a red light. I saw it, but wasn't paying super close attention, but I was stopping far enough back. Then all of a sudden I saw something. This guy had a 2" tube sticking out of his hitch that stuck out 4'. Stuck straight out almost like a hay spear. I followed him in to Menards and then he proceeded to go head at another vehicle so he could back into one of the loading spots up in front of the building so his 4' extension could hang out over the sidewalk. I've never seen anything like it - maybe part of a bike rack, but missing the part that made it so you could see it. Had I not been paying close enough attention or whatever, that could have been real bad.

Big difference between a 1' or less drawbar & what you're talking about! ~~ grnspot

Seeing this was at menards & a small truck, I'm going to guess it was a load extender. The guy was likely going to haul a long piece of lumber or pipe home.

If it were to be a load extender, there should have been a piece sticking up to catch the load and a least a red flag on it. The 2" straight tube sticking out was really hard to see.
