I know I am late, but when you reinstalled the center blade, did toy double check that both washers is curved right way on blade?

Should only be one washer on the 54p I believe.

Chris, Glad you got it sorted!! Sometimes It's just easier to pull the deck:thumbsup:

Yep. Radioman is right. There is only one washer on my deck, and it's not curved.

New mowing season, time for an update.

Firstly I removed the mulch kit baffles but kept the mulch blades installed.

Then I did the routine maintenance, pressure wash, grease, gear oil, sharpen. Then I installed the deck as normal.

I picked up a Deere deck level gauge, Money well spent!!! It makes measuring the level so easy.. all for $8.00:D

Initial measurements were very disappointing. Deck height was set at 3.5". Right side was measured at 3 5/8" front/rear and Left was at 4" f/r. So as used last year, the deck was out ~ 1/2" Left to right and was dead flat front to rear!!

So I had to adjust. First I did the rear and set it to 3 3/4", left and right. Right side just required a minimal movement and the left required several turns to bring it down to 3.75"

Then I did the front mount adjustments to set the front edge of the deck at 3.5" which will give me the necessary front to rear pitch to hopefully help the deck perform.

As you can see I had to back the 24mm nuts almost completely off to get the deck to the proper height!

I highly recommend the deere gauge. Even if your deck appears to be cutting well, it could surprise you how much it was out! I thought mine was pretty close, I was wrong!!:D

I havent had a chance to cut the lawn yet as the weather wasnt cooperating. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to report my mowing woes gone. If I still have issues, Im going to remove the factory Kubota mulch blades and install a set of Oregon Gator G6 blades.

You really need to have someplace to measure that the entire tractor fits on. The deck is a floating deck not ground contact so the tractor tires make a big difference in the measurements. Also there is a gauge available from John Deere for less than $20 that is great for this task. The measurements should be done at cutting height also. The blades being level front to back will definitely leave a poor quality cut.

I picked up a Deere deck leveling gauge yesterday. I checked a while back at the Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Dixie Chopper Dealer and they did not stock them:thumbdown: It will be a lot easier than using a tape measure.

Great tool.

It should come standard with the tractor.

This is great info. Love the pictures. I just purchased my BX last year but really only got out on it a couple of times. I know, unfortunately that the deck is not right because I have measured the sides and they are off. Love to hear the results. I'm going to pick up one of those deer measurers too.

Thanks for the info

I bought one from Amazon last year. It's sold by Steens and it's blue but otherwise identical to the gage shown above. Just saying in case someone is having trouble finding it locally.

yeah, it should come standard with any mower but most people are too lazy to level their deck.

Measure the blades their self. The height of the sides of the decks can be different from side to side even though the deck is level.
