New mowing season, time for an update.
Firstly I removed the mulch kit baffles but kept the mulch blades installed.
Then I did the routine maintenance, pressure wash, grease, gear oil, sharpen. Then I installed the deck as normal.
I picked up a Deere deck level gauge, Money well spent!!! It makes measuring the level so easy.. all for $8.00
Initial measurements were very disappointing. Deck height was set at 3.5". Right side was measured at 3 5/8" front/rear and Left was at 4" f/r. So as used last year, the deck was out ~ 1/2" Left to right and was dead flat front to rear!!
So I had to adjust. First I did the rear and set it to 3 3/4", left and right. Right side just required a minimal movement and the left required several turns to bring it down to 3.75"
Then I did the front mount adjustments to set the front edge of the deck at 3.5" which will give me the necessary front to rear pitch to hopefully help the deck perform.
As you can see I had to back the 24mm nuts almost completely off to get the deck to the proper height!
I highly recommend the deere gauge. Even if your deck appears to be cutting well, it could surprise you how much it was out! I thought mine was pretty close, I was wrong!!
I havent had a chance to cut the lawn yet as the weather wasnt cooperating. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to report my mowing woes gone. If I still have issues, Im going to remove the factory Kubota mulch blades and install a set of Oregon Gator G6 blades.
