I have a BX2660 with the 60 inch deck, no mulch kit and terminator blades. I have my deck 1/4 in lower in the from and I set my deck wheels so the front just barely touches the ground and the backs roll with the resistance of the grass. I have found this gives the best quality cut for me. I mowed tonight at a pretty high rate of speed and I think it turned out pretty good.

Good looking cut. Id be happy with that amount of rutting. Nice and flat otherwise. What was your cut height?

I think i really got to get the deck set up right before i get too upset. Enough people have said it SHOULD cut pretty good that i shouldnt be an exception.

2 things i wonder about.....

1. I have industrial tires.

2. Is the mulch kit the culprit? If it wasnt so involved to change back i would remove it just to try.

I was cutting at 2 3/4. I also have the R4 industrial tires. The mulch kit might be causing a little trouble but I think leveling will do the most. When you lower your deck and set your gauge wheels, park in a flat area and see how even the deck wheels are to the ground. The fronts should be just a little closer to the ground or touching than the backs are. You might try loosening the front hanger bolts a little (evenly) until you can see that the front deck wheels are slightly lower than the back. That should help.

I have my guide wheels set about the way Coldmaxx does and have good results. Today I mowed, grass was about 4-5", I set the mower at 3"....

This is a different area, grass a bit longer, mower set at 3 1/2"...

All mowing done in high range @2800 rpm.

One difference is that the fine cut is a deeper deck which is supposed to create more of a vaccuum to stand the grass up and also keep it suspended longer to allow the clippings to be cut finer.Whether or not it works,I don't really know. There may be other differences as well such as the type of belt used on each. The regular cut deck I used to have had a double wide belt whereas my fine cut deck has a single width belt.

I'm with you on if it works or not? Thanks for the info.

I think the fine is over pimped. I can get my 60" to blow it away...

And this is an okay cut...dull blades, no iron...

Some of those pictures look familiar.

I would check to see if the belt tension on the deck is working right.
Maybe a jammed or weak spring.

To me that looks like your blades are slipping when you get into heavier cutting.

If the belt is due for replacement (which can be caused by slipping) you might get that too.

Sharp blades make a difference as well.

Good luck

New mowing season, time for an update.

Firstly I removed the mulch kit baffles but kept the mulch blades installed.

Then I did the routine maintenance, pressure wash, grease, gear oil, sharpen. Then I installed the deck as normal.

I picked up a Deere deck level gauge, Money well spent!!! It makes measuring the level so easy.. all for $8.00:D

Initial measurements were very disappointing. Deck height was set at 3.5". Right side was measured at 3 5/8" front/rear and Left was at 4" f/r. So as used last year, the deck was out ~ 1/2" Left to right and was dead flat front to rear!!

So I had to adjust. First I did the rear and set it to 3 3/4", left and right. Right side just required a minimal movement and the left required several turns to bring it down to 3.75"

Then I did the front mount adjustments to set the front edge of the deck at 3.5" which will give me the necessary front to rear pitch to hopefully help the deck perform.

As you can see I had to back the 24mm nuts almost completely off to get the deck to the proper height!

I highly recommend the deere gauge. Even if your deck appears to be cutting well, it could surprise you how much it was out! I thought mine was pretty close, I was wrong!!:D

I havent had a chance to cut the lawn yet as the weather wasnt cooperating. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to report my mowing woes gone. If I still have issues, Im going to remove the factory Kubota mulch blades and install a set of Oregon Gator G6 blades.
