mahindra 4110
My mahindra 4110 overheats after 30 minutes of brushhogging. I have cleaned radiator and screens and have cleaned out both air filters all fluids are good. It still overheats quite quickly even on cool days. ( Temps in the 75 F range) . Has anybody looked into the poor placement of the airfilter/intake location as a contributing factor in the overheating problem. I am thinking about relocating the air intake/filter. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the 4110. Does it have removable side panels? If so, I don't believe it would hurt to take them off.

In the beginning I had the same problems brushogging, solved it a piece at a time, I put an extra screen to help protect the original screen, it got better, then from this forum I took the advice of cleaning the fins, and not just in appearence, but cleaning the fins until the water flushed clear, it got better, so much better that I do this twice a year before I cut my fields, whether I have problems or not. IT IS PART OF MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. Removing the side panels on a hot day 90+ also helps, In tall grass I cut with my bucket on and lowered so in knocks down the grass and seed BEFORE it gets to the hood. Together these things work for me. I cut (brush hog) 25 acres of horse pasture at least TWICE a year, I cut (brush hog) 50 acres of my neighbors fields at least ONCE a year, now that is just a small part of of what I use my 4110, despite all that grass work, I have not come close to the "RED" mark on my tractor this year.
P.S. I think there is a kit from the dealer that lowers the battery to help air flow to the radiator.

I have a 4510 and had the same problem. Here is what I had to do. Moved the battery lower so it did not block as much of the radiator. I removed the windshield washer reservoir so there was less blockage to the radiator so there was more air flow. I also added an aftermarket electric fan to assist. When the condenser unit was removed to do this a large amount of chaft and debris was between that and the radiator even though it had been blown out numerous times. The fins are just so small that they trap dirt easily and it is a constant battle to keep/blow out the dirt.
In my opinion it is a poor design/set up but that is what I had to do.
I also put a furnace filter in front to trap as much as I can before it gets to the radiator. I have not yet added Royal Purple coolant additive or Water Wetter but that may yet be done. It runs cool enough now but what a pain all around.

Lowrider, My advice is to take the side panels off and take the 4 or so bolts out that hold the air cleaner on and move it aside. Take a light and put in behind the radiator and look through it from the front. You may be surprised at how stopped up the radiator is. A clean radiator will fix 9 out of 10 overheating issues.

This thread is a year and a half old but relevant to the 4110 I am using. I have used compressed air to clean the radiator fins. Thought that the air cleaner was in an odd place. My son was running the 4110 and tried raising the hood. Ran for an hour and a half on a cool day without getting to the red. Tractor must be very sensitive to air flow as when he ran it into the wind it would cool down. Removing the side panels is very doable. On the same day I ran a B7510 pulling a 5 foot mower. No heat issues. Ran a B3200 with a 5 foot mower. No heat issues. The 4110 is a TYM tractor. Seems to be poor design or not enough water pump. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I had one in the shop once that was so plugged that I had to remove the radiator and clean it with a pressure washer. If I were you, I would invest in a radiator genie, and try to do a good cleaning with it.

Nearly always this is a clogged radiator on the air side. See if you can shine a flashlight from the back side and see through every inch of the radiator. The 4110 used a pretty fine core, which is just perfect to collect certain types of fluff from mowing. As Galen said, clean it really well and see what it does. Unless you have blown a head gasket or cracked a head already, I bet it runs cool.

I have the radiator genie. It works best if you blow the chafe from the engine side to the front of the tractor, while using the air wand. Get out as much as you can before using the water wand. If you don't, the remaining debris tends to rehydrate, get sticky, and very hard to clean out.

My 3910 did the same thing for years. Constantly having to blow the radiator out while mowing.

I bought the Mahindra kit to lower the Battery down and problem solved. Still have to keep the cooling fins clean but it does not run in the hot range any longer.

Exactly! Cleaning is the key. From operator standpoint, I'm always looking for easy way out. spent whole year cleaning and looking for "other " things. next season same thing.. I wrestled with problem spraying cleaning etc. heated it up once real hot. Sprung leak in radiator. probably from over heating. Sent it out to radiator guy to repair. Radiator came back as good and clean as new. Put back on in center of heat spell. Ran for 4 years now and nary even close to heat up, until this season. Screwed up and got in some high stuff with a lot of left over crap from old weeds. running hotter now, even after cleaning out. My experience says Dave is right on the money.

If I have to cut high stuff, I try to cut on wet day. Less dust. I've tried furnace filters in front of rad. not so good. Even tried cutting in reverse. Too hard to do big cut. After this seasons clog up, I was thinking cheese cloth might work. It would clog up fast, but save having inside fins clog. Maybe leave side panels off too as one person here suggested.

I was lucky I didn't hurt machine.

Good luck.....Coffeeman

I have a 4110 that also over heats. We relocated the muffler to under the front loader mount,we wrapped the exhaust pipe with header fabric and also the top radiator hose wrapped. This stopped the over heating for light bush hogging. When we grass and cutting on hill sides we take the side covers off. That lets a lot off heat out from under the hood.Hope this will help.

The stock radiator is cheap, I have a 2003 with about 600 hrs on it use it every day in winter putting out round bales rake all my hay and stack all my 4x5 bales (about 200 per year) with it and have since it was new. Has been a great tractor with a few normal issues, changed 1 wheel bearing and normal maintenance. The one issue that drives me crazy is it does over heat. I had a new radiator made for it and it helped but you still have to wash out the radiator a few times a year. If I neglect it even raking hay it will get hot, I just rev it up and take a water hose and wash it out seems to run fine for awhile but is very temper mental to dust.

We have had the same problem with our 4110. We even relocated the muffler which did not help. The thing that did help was removing the side engine covers do this it stopped our over heating.

I posted a reply about 6 years ago. I have to air hose the radiator fins about every usage. Doesn't get hot as such but gets as warmer than I would prefer. Just not the best designed setup, would work OK if one just worked in an open field, any dust or seeds etc. and it will clog up it seems.

Yea, I also have posted to this question a couple of times over the years. Dropping my battery box down between the frame thus opening more of the front of the radiator to airflow seemed to help me quite a bit. I've also stated that I have always and still do have to blow my radiator out with the air hose a lot, not water. Water just makes mud of the chaff and it doesn't get a lot of it out. My pressure washer does better but it's at great risk of damaging the radiator with my 4.6 gpm washer so I don't use that. Since I don't cut my 5-6 acres with the tractor anymore, I seldom have to clean it - went to a zero turn for cutting. Lots of loader work in really dry dirt will still clog it after a day or two of work.

Somewhat related to this...

I have a 4510 that has never run cool enough to suit me in the summer. Usually only when running under load. I took it to a local radiator shop to see what the deal is. When temps climb to the 90's, it's always run hot. Not redline. But nearly. Having to stop every hour to blow out the radiator is common. It helps a bit.

Radiator shop guy called and said I needed a thermostat. Ok...Do it.

I got the tractor back, hooked up my 12' batwing and took off in 2' grass in 90* plus temps.... (Pretty good test)

That tractor has a new life! It ran cool. Needle was in the middle rather than on the hot side all the time. Shredded for about 3 hours and not once did I have to blow out the radiator. I'm sure pleased with the fix!

Radiator guy showed me the factory thermostat. it was a bit shiny on one side of the plunger. The other side wasn't. He said it was not flowing properly due to improper alignment.

Might be something else to check if you are overheating.

Also, when the tractor runs on the hot side, the a/c loses it's ability to much for the cab. I would sweat! Better on that now too.

Lowered the battery in the 3510, worked to lower temps. Mahindra radiators don't have enough space between fins and trap smaller stuff.
Design flaw. Still have to keep it clean though. TYM built??
8560 does not have the same issue. Mahindra built??

As mentioned above removing a side cover really helped, I only did one. May do both but it was worth the little effort to take it off.
