A PTO shaft hanger for my rotary cutter

/ A PTO shaft hanger for my rotary cutter #11
I just got a Pat's Easy Change a few weeks ago. It works amazingly well and makes me wonder why I waited all these years. As one ages it helps to find ways to ease the work and avoid strains, and the hitch does that.

But I don't want to hijack the thread. Your PTO hanger has motivated me to finally do something about replacing the bungees. One of the reasons I took the photos is so I can sit here, look at them, and come up with a solution similar to yours. I have a cable crimper, various small cables, and crimps; so I'm thinking I might do something with that.

If I do come up with something I'll post it here.

How about something like a threaded hook to hang the free end of say a 1/8 inch cable with a crimped on loop on that end and the other end could be a closed eye then you crimp on a loop thru that eye.. So you wind up drilling two holes in the support of the "hog" for the closed eye and the hook eye hardware.. How about that... I thunk it out for you.:D

OR a snap hook on the free end, and another closed eye bolt so that you can snap the free end back to the support so it dont flop around. how about that?

Hey, slow down. I can't move that fast!. :confused2: After all, it has been 10 years--what's another year or two? :)

But yes, I was thinking something along those lines. While I'm at it I may try to incorporate another bolt on one support arm to mount a small pvc pipe with end caps to store shear bolts which I now keep in the tool box.

It might be kind of hard with you tiller in NC and me in MO. to get things right.. send some pictures with how the PTO shaft would be hung in mind. remember the shaft must go up and down with the 3PT. and the hanger cannot interfere with this range of motion. Send me some pix, and we will see.

It's on my tractor now and I still have some more tilling to do. Once it comes off I will send a photo of attached and unattached to see if it's feasible. You're right, it does look a bit cramped for space while attached. Thank you!

I had a couple of eye bolts and caribiner on hand to make a hanger for my rotary mower PTO shaft. I still plan to add a second bolt on the left arm in the photo to attach a shear pin holder. I need to get more bolts to make a hanger for the finish mower.

That's for sure! Your post is what finally motivated to do something. I will make one for the finish mower next and then the snowblower.

Thanks for the ideas.

Your very welcome!. Sometimes all it takes is a little push and seeing someone else do something to get us to act. Your solution would probably work even in a "tight" space like a tiller, and it sure is a simple self storing solution.
