Heres the difference you don't seem to understand.
If you are cutting a flat smooth area with nothing to mow around the Exmark IS CAPABLE of mowing up to 5 acres Per hour.

I said in the OP it WAS capable, but for the vast majority of consumers their claim is pure hype.

Respectfully disagree...it means the claim for mower B is more realistic.

Not really. It just means that the combination of deck size and mowing speed are only half that of mower A.

Weather its realistic or not, and weather the majority of customers us it to full potential or not, manufactures typically rate most things by it max capacity or capability.

You are not going to cut anywhere near 6.6 acres per hour with that mower, on most lawns, even if it's flat and obstruction free, without tearing the turf up.

On my turf, I can only do high speed turns during about 1/3 of the season.

72+ inch rigid decks are notorious for being too wide to cut most lawns without issues. My 60" doesn't fit in some places on my estate, and has issues with uneven ground in some places.

My 72" JD F935 has an above average ground speed , but if you are cutting a 'lawn' instead of a golf course fairway, my butt won't allow full speed ahead. That leaves me with about 2.5 acres per hour on hills and around trees. Looks like we now need a government Department of Lawn Mower regulations for fair reporting of lawn cutting speed as well as horsepower ratings and trailer towing capacity.

Speaking of weather, my 9' NH 479 can easily cut 5 acres per hour in hay season on a nice day...

Someone else butt may be able to handle a faster speed.

Too many variables that determine actual output of the mower. Which is why they just list the max. Makes for useful comparison.

Now if you let your grass get overgrown, or it is really bumpy and things to mow around, and you know you arent mowing at top speed ever, look at the deck size. Bigger will likely be faster. Then look at blade speed. Faster allows you to leave a cleaner cut up to a higher speed. So if your lawn rarely lets you go over 5 MPH, getting a 48" deck that goes 16MPH probably isnt going to be as fast as a 72" w/ 8 MPH top speed.

My Bad Boy 60" deck will go about 12 miles per hour I think. I can only use full speed and get a decent cut at the same time under a very limited set of factors. Most time is spend going between 1/2 or 3/4 speed probably. Still, I can average about 2.5 acres/hour around my place without trying too hard.

Really appreciate all the opinions and information provided by the members, I can be really stubborn about some issues. BTW, the 2002 John Deere 4000-Ten series brochure lists the following figures:

Mowing 2 acres: 18 horsepower 4010 with 60 inch deck, 48 minutes
32 horsepower 4310 with 72 inch deck, 40 minutes
48 horsepower 4710 with 72 inch deck, 36 minutes

Top speed of the 4310, which is the next model up from mine is listed at 15 to 17.5 mph, depending upon tire size and transmission type. A 4710 would be as fast or even faster than the maximum 17.5 mph of the 4310 and have a 1 foot wider deck than the Exmark I decry but Deere rates it more realistically at 72 minutes for 4 acres.

Do they list either the assumed ground speed or efficiency?

To Exmark's credit, they do provide a mowing productivity table for various mower widths and ground speeds assuming 80% efficiency: Mower Productivity - Exmark | The Efficiency of Our Lawn Mowers.

There's one problem: the values for widths of 3' or less don't make sense.:confused2:
