There has been a rash of home burglaries over the last 6 months in my area... police sometimes respond... mostly they say to go online and file a report with no repsonse as was the most recent case.

My neighbor got hit yesterday... seems entry is gained at the rear by breaking a window... many homes back up to woods making it easy for someone to vanish...

I checked around my place and found my backyard patio door had over a dozen chips in the glass from a spring loaded center punch.

I have a plate glass door dating from 1960... had it been tempered, I have no doubts I would have come home to a pile of shattered glass.

Right at the spot with the chips is the sticker from the local Alarm company too...

Every break in has happened between the hours for 9am to 11 am weekdays.

Just be carfull out there... a few happened with elderly retired at home and they were slapped around and tied up...

Best wishes and good luck staying safe. To bad one of those people that were home didn't have a pistol handy to end your troubles.

That's precisely what I would do to those thugs as well.
Then I would call the cops.

Getting bad here in NorthEast Mississippi to. Had a fried come home to 2 very sick German shepherds the other day. We found a box of rat poison and some ground beef mixed together. The dogs survived but he moved them and waited. Caught 3 young adults stealing his ac unit and a mower.

We put all the anti-smash film on our windows, and use strike master 2 door jam inserts to make the doors stronger. Also have oak dowels in the sliding doors to keep them from being opened.
Having a big old dog helps too.
The best thing though is that we have a lot of pipeline work going on our way and so there are people around all the time.

Probably all drug related.

Call the cops? They will be back out on the street too quick.

SSS prevents repeat crime. I have a backhoe..... ;-)

You know what?
As a tax payer, I appreciate that sentiment, I think it's the best deterrent there is.
But as a forum member, I would ask that remind your self what S #3 is all about..
Thanks again.

Pretty brazen thieves to keep bankers hours burglarizing homes. We had the same type of activity here a couple years ago. The guys were finally caught by detectives. Druggies with weapons. Apparently they just didn't have the time to look for jobs......

.

Another sad example of the Ongoing Virtualization of Everything..... A local cop on the beat, on foot patrol, is still the most effective deterent from that end.

Knock wood, things have been fairly good near here, with the exception of some car vandalism a few Summers back by some meth-heads. They dropped a radio face in my neighbours driveway, that they had broken prying it out of another car with a screwdriver..... instead of pushing the release button..... ....

Drugs are everywhere, but I know how bad it gets in problem areas. A buddy works all over the lower mainland of BC, there are massive drug problems there, along with the associated crime.

Here too, it seems the police won't often do much about property crime, unless you send them a video of the perps in action. If you don't have anything set up at home UR, I'd be looking at a multicamera external surveillance system, with remote reporting, as the cost is fairly reasonable today.

Best of luck with the scumbags, and I hope your elderly neighbours aren't hassled.

Rgds, D.
