Tractor
Kubota B2910
I have had my Kubota B2910 for 10 years. no hydrostatic problems ever. But last week I was mowing down a grade and everything gave way. It was like it flew out of gear and was completely free of any hydrostatics at all, plunging down the hill . Service guy says that was impossible, but he didn't take the ride I did! By God's grace I'm alive to talk about it. But my question is, could the transmission pump have been going out and let it get free like that or has anyone el had any problems with their tractor flying out of gear or loosing hydrolic pressure.

If one of the spider gear shafts came loose in differential then the tractor could free wheel down an incline.:2cents:

You did not say if you tried reverse, or that you tried the brakes.

I once had a downhill experience on my hyd powered Dixie Chopper. Wet grass with no control in full reverse.

At the bottom of the hill was a 4 ft drop off.

I dove off the Chopper at the drop off, but the mower landed on top of me still running. I survived, but it was close.

So did you accidentally knock the range selector out of gear? That will do it. I accidentally knocked the range selector of my L3400hst out of gear by squirming around in the seat with my butt. The tractor took off down a steep hill, and I hit the brakes and stopped it. It is pretty easy to do.

Yep, I have done that too it will get your attention. As to JJ's post, wow that had to scare the **** out of you. I had to bail off of my old 670 jd one time plowing snow down a hill. I hit ice and tractor took off, I baled off before it picked up too much speed. Tractor slid into a ditch and had no damage. I was just bruised up a little but it could have been much worse. Glad you are ok now.

You need to tell us what did you do after you stopped. Did the tractor move under own power or not? Range gear popping out or, as mentioned in another post, striped shaft would cause the event.

My dealer had a guy with a brand new M126x call and complain that the brakes would not hold the tractor while coming down a hill.

Long story short, the man had been on a steep hill without enough rear ballast and the loader on.... in two wheel drive. The brakes can't do much good when the rear wheels are barely touching the ground.

thanks for all the inputs. I had it in 4wd, no wet grass, and did not accidently knock it out of gear. I was mowing along at a steady pace in medium speed and half way down the hill it just took off. once it broke loose I did hit the breaks but it was going so fast and only had 2 wheels on the ground it didn't do any good. hit a tree going about 30 miles per hour and broke whole front axle off. don't know what kind of internal damage it may have done. wondering if it could have gotten vapor locked or transmission pump is going out.

Before I would think there is something wrong with the hydro, I would think a broken spline or shaft or something like that.
