Thanks, acronyms used a lot on this site. Typically, on first use, full name spelled out followed by (acronym) in parentheses, then acronym from there on keep all on same page.

My 2cents worth.

Never heard of leasing / renting gas bottles, you take in empty and exchange it for full bottle paying for gas only?

CO2 are often owned and can be filled quite easily. Mix gasses, is a little more involved. Still, sometimes with customer owned cylinders, you have to wait to have them filled.

I just trade mine in for full ones, oxygen, acetylene, MIG shielding gas?

I think Todd should clarify that when he talks about a 50 amp AC/DC welder, he is talking about a 50 amp input 230 volt machine typically in the 200-300 amp range.

Arc Weld, you are right I wasn't thinking when I posted that I should point out that is the input not output.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but a few weeks ago I stumbled across a Youtube channel called weldingtipsandtricks and have been enjoying some pretty good welding videos ever since. For me, the best part are the very clear images showing just how the filler wire and electrodes are being manipulated in the welding puddle. He covers MIG, TIG, and stick, and in addition to showing lots of practice welds, does some nifty projects as well. Here's one example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De6yu8Z_ltI&index=76&list=UUqq70AnPkj4-UApS_m_6mPw

There are head-to-head machine comparisons, reviews on helmets, and the coverage goes from very basic to advanced techniques.

Take a look. Just might be all you need to get you up and over that initial hump on the learning curve.

Hope this helps,

Scot
