Does anyone know what weight oil this tractor takes? I am going up this weekend and may need to add some. There is a case of 30 weight in the barn but I am not sure that it was for the tractor. I also need to know for the oil change. Thanks. Tom

30 weight engine oil is fine as is 15W-40 depending on ambient temp.

I agree but he stated he had a case of 30 weight in the barn plus I'm fairly confident that 30 weight oil is listed in that tractors operators manual.

i'm sure it was good advice 70 yeas ago too when multi grade oils were in petro engineers dreams.

my ancient john deere manual says to dilute the rear end oil with a quart of kerosene in the winter.

We don't have to do that anymore because we have multi grade gear oil ..

OK I'll rephrase my statement If I had a case of 30 weight good quality engine oil in my barn I wouldn't be afraid to run it in the engine of a JD 2030 which was built in '71-'75 not 70 yrs ago.

I am out here with the tractor. Engine crankcase is full. Hydraulics is low. Manual still in mail. I have Hy-gard. Is the fill cap the big gas cap looking thing behind seat? Thanks. Tom
