i thought i owned a crock pot. when my wife moved out it looks like she took it. I'm having some company tomorrow for supper (yes that kind of company ;-)). I want to make something in a crock pot. is there another way to imitate a crock pot? is putting the ingredients in a stainless steel pot in the oven with the cover on at minimal temperature going to work? the main ingredients are beets and beans.

Dutch oven or go to bed bath and beyond and get a new one!

And...sounds like you might've been out of the game awhile. Beans are never a good date food. Depending on the after supper entertainment, for low activity, a steak and potato is good. For high activity a light supper like grilled chicken salad or fish are safer alternatives.

this is why this is in the rural living section. i don't want to drive 1 1/2 hours round trip to get another crock pot. i should have looked for this a few days ago and i could have got one from amazon by now.

i am a vegetarian for the most part. and i've been out of the game for a while but i think beans have never been a good date food unless both parties eat them and have the same reaction in which case it can be pretty funny.

My wife (who is a great cook) said you can use stainless in the oven but line it with aluminum foil to make clean up easier. She suggested to look it up on ask.com.

She also said to remember things cook differently in the oven than they do in the crock pot. The oven will dry it out, the crock pot will add moisture.

Good luck!

thanks everyone. i ended up getting back the crockpot. i traded my ex for a big cooler. i put in some lucks canned kidney beans, onions, baby beets, and apples. added a little water. i have no idea how this will end up tasting. i will probably add some herbs later (i see thyme and sage around). and greens if i can find some.
