I'm very prepared for things that have a remote chance of actually happening to me. It's the Eagle Scout training I guess. Packing a gun on the off chance someone will rob me or I'll stumble upon an armed shooter isn't one of them. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, power outages, ice storms, medical emergencies are all things I'm prepared for.

I married my match (except for age:D) in that she's intelligent, witty and physically active. The fact that she has guns is offset by her ability to be a smart, informed and well trained gun owner - a condition that is woefully lacking in most parts of America (present company excepted). A case in point lately is the group of yahoos walking into various fast food restaurants with weapons at the ready. Really, if they want to play with guns that badly they should enlist in the military - at the very least it would give them some training and might assuage the need to act like attention ******. I'm not against gun ownership. I am FOR responsible gun ownership, and when they elect me King, that might include restricting ownership for some and make purchasing a weapon a much more involved and invasive process than it is currently.

OK, rant mode is off.

I sure agree with you...Hard to believe the Yahoos taking long guns especially out in public expect it to do anything but turn folks against the 2nd amendment...In my opinion, it should be concealed carry only...this open carry does noting but scare folks like roadrunner...I would not feel comfortable out shopping with my family and some idiot comes in with a big gun on his side or shoulder...You make a good point and they are going to harm all responsible gun owners and concealed carry folks...

Statistical probabilities are meaningless if you find yourself in a life threatening situation. In over thirty years of preparing "Crime Victim Impact Statements", the phrase I most often heard was, "I never thought this could happen to me."

I no longer carry very often and don't answer the door armed anymore, but I certainly see nothing wrong with doing so and don't see those who do so as alarmists.

We live in the country in a low crime area, but two men tried to car jack my son down by our barn several years ago and our home has been burglarized.

Yep, sad but true. It's crazy what folks will do for a drug fix!

I sure know that James; I'm just getting complacent in my old age and with little kids in our home more often now, it's just harder to have a gun handy and safe.

Hey, I was just happy that the house I bought last year still had the copper piping at the end of escrow! Apparently with the number of foreclosures, tweekers look for houses for sale then sneak into the crawlspace and take the copper.

I can say that I never grab a weapon when I go to answer the door.....because if I'm awake and not at work or a school event it is already in it's concealed holster on my side. Pray for the best, be prepared for the worst.

Well Now, that's a real cute response.....and making fun of my quote I have on my signature shows you are a real class act...

For what it's worth, not everyone on TBN can see members' signature lines at the end of each post. I have opted to turn off the display of signatures in my account's General Settings section. I'm sure others have too.

Not true!! A couple of them ran their car over my tulips this spring as they were leaving and didn't even stop to apologize!

That really opens the question; "Why were they in such a hurry to leave?" ;)

My $0.02 is that a completely random home invasion (ie no drug sales or domestic dispute involved) is so infinitesimally rare that it does not merit any consideration on my part. I live on 5 acres at the end of a long driveway. Outside of the Jehovah's Witnesses, I get no random strangers at my door. I would not be concerned about leaving my windows open and unlocked during the day while I am at work.

My (new) wife on the other hand, sleeps with a loaded Glock under the bed and has another stashed elsewhere in the house with a couple of baseball bats here and there as well. The first thing she does when she comes home from work is to lock the door behind her. She has a CCP and hits the range several times a month. I have no doubt she could handle herself in a situation.

The difference is I worry more about a head on with a drunk driver or getting hit by lightning than I do about getting broken into and robbed or killed - and I don't worry about either of those very much. It's a difference of opinion and a difference in how we view the world. I just don't think it's that scary a place.

Next to Cops and EMT Volunteers, Firemen are some of my favorite people.
Too quote Alfred E. Newman, "What, me worry?"
My 3 large dogs warn me of approaching people. I scope them out (no pun intended) and the worst thing to come to my door is Jehovah Witness (No thank you, very polite).
But if I shoot you four times center mass there will be no walking away.

I live "way out" in the country. Nearest neighbor is 3+ miles away. My driveway is a mile long. I certainly DO NOT live in fear. It is well known in this part of the country that I approach all unknown visitors parked in my yard with a loaded shot gun. Friends have no problems visiting - others who may have ulterior motives best reconsider a trip down MY driveway.
Here in Canada that might get you 10 years in jail.

Even here in socialist NJ we can be armed on our property. Just don't point it at anyone. And in the home we do have the Castle Doctrine.

So true. Probably has to do with perspective. I live in one of the most rural parts of the united states. We drive 2 hours to go to a mall or chain restaurant. all our neighbors are farmers and ranchers who are as honest as the day is long. You will find keys in most cars, trucks, tractors, and equipment you see but nobody steals anything. I am so thankful that I dont' have to worry about all the crime that happens in other parts of the country.

I leave the house unlocked during the day. If someone really wants in your house all they have to do is break window, kick door, pick lock, etc.. it's not that hard. I figure if they want in they will get in no matter what so I might as well save myself the trouble of fixing the door or window. I leave keys in the cars at night. I figure if someone wants my car I would just assume they jump in and leave my property instead of coming in the house to find the keys.

I do have guns but I hope I never have to use then on another person.

Not sure I understand what is to be gained running around the internet talking about how tough you are and how you are mature enough to shoot intruders and how you are going to put 4 in the body mass of anybody who comes in and you are going to carry a shotgun out to greet any visitors.

Heheheeeee Coby that's a good cartoon! Scary, ain't it? I like what my pastor did to a young thug who pulled a pistol on him in church parking lot. Pastor was about 70 at the time. As he was getting out of his car, young thug came to him and said, "Give me ye money or I'll blow ye brains out". To which me pastor replied, "In the name of Jesus, oh no you won't!", as he kicked the thug in his nuts.

Pastor was fine, thug not so much.

Here's a scary thought: Answering the door with a gun in your pocket, or greeting people with a shotgun in your arms, isn't going to save you from a stone-cold psychopath.

Well luckily there aren't very many stone-cold psychopaths, but if somebody suggests a surprise birthday party for you nobodys gonna come?.

HUH? Can you flesh out this psycho at the door scenario a bit for us? Such what is the psycho's intent and how is he armed and how is the homeowner armed and what is his mindset? I need more info please.
