BX25D 50 hr Service Done

Hit 50 hrs on the meter while mowing Monday. Planned to finish up mowing yesterday after work but had stormy weather, so I decided to do some of the 50 hr service instead. Wound up doing everything - it was much easier than the 50 hr service on my BX1500. In fact the hardest part was getting mower deck off and on. That thing is a beast. After removing the deck I removed the transmission oil filter. Had to modify my filter wrench by trimming the band with tin snips to fit it between the filter and skidplate. I was a little concerned about how much fluid would drain when I removed the filter, but it was really little more than a few drops plus less than a cup that was in the old filter. After installing the new trans oil filter I drained the engine oil and removed the old oil filter. Again, just a small amount dripped from the filter. While the oil was draining I greased the foot pedal. Replaced the drain plug and installed the new oil filter and added 3 qt Rotella T-5 10w-30 because that's what I ran in my BX1500 and I had some leftover. Started it up and checked for leaks at the filters and drain plug, all good. Shut it down and checked engine and transmission oil levels, all good. Torqued the wheel bolts and the loader frame bolts. Hardest part was reinstalling the deck by wiggling it under the tractor. The bolts on the balancing bar get hung up on the rear linkage, not sure what's up with that. Reaching under the tractor to attach the drive shaft is just about impossible. Fortunately it clicked right on, so I didn't have to wrestle with the collar too much. Also, the rear linkage doesn't seem to want to go down without a load on it. I had to reach up under the tractor and pull it down with my hand. Adjusting the rate of drop didn't affect it. If anyone knows of an adjustment or something that needs lubed to get that to come down on its own, I'd love to know about it. Even after pulling the linkage down, I still had to lift each side of the deck to get the pins to snap into place. Again, if anyone knows of an adjustment I can make to prevent having to do that, please let me know. Still have a leaking seal on left side of the power steering cylinder. It had stopped leaking for a while, but has started again now, so I'll have to get the dealer to check it out when the grass stops growing so fast. Altogether it was less than two hours, including wrestling with the mower deck, and I was in no hurry.

I don't see anything here about cleaning the hydro strainer. This is something you should do on your 50 hour service. It's located on the left rear behind the wheel. Jack the tractor up and remove the wheel is easiest. That's where you lose the hydro fluid, it comes pouring right out. Use a #5 rubber stopper once you get the strainer out.

It is normal for the 3ph to not go all the way down without some weight on it. I just get the deck in place and then stand on the 3ph arm. It really helps to have loader and backhoe on to install the mmm. Gives you a ton more clearance.

I left the deck on when I did my 50 hour service. But it was off for the 100 and was a little easier. Getting ready to do the 150 if there is any thing to do in a couple weeks. I think it might be 200 but will look when I get there.

I can't imagine how you got the hydro filter off with the mowing deck still attached! There's not much room to work under there even without the deck on.

I performed the service that was indicated in the owners manual at 50 hrs, which did not include cleaning the hydro strainer.

Perhaps they have removed this part of the service on the newer model. In my manual for the BX25 there is a chart on page 63 that calls for cleaning the strainer on the initial 50 hour service but it's not listed under the every 50 hours section.

I did it for first 50 hours. Called two dealers got different information so drained all the fluid and pulled strainer. Easy but the strainer was totally clean except for an extremely small of black stuff but no metal. Sprayed it with brake cleaner just because I needed to waste more time and money. I got it in mid March and put 50 hard hours on it. I wouldn't bother.

Mine was pretty clean too, just a small amount of metallic grit. Me, I'd rather take a little time right now to do a simple maintenance task to protect my investment.

My 2011 model manual calls for cleaning the strainer. I did and glad I did. Pulled out a teaspoon full of metal shavings and grindings plus some sticky black gunk. Filter had the same black gunk in it. 1000HR now there has been no repeat. I do not have a MMM so my service including greasing the BH and FEL or other implement that is on at that time; runs about 30-45 minutes.

According to my manual, first service for the hydro strainer is at 400 hrs, so that is when it will get done. I can't see dumping all that oil when the manufacturer doesn't call for it. I can understand why some would do it though.

I did have one slight hiccup which I was too embaressed to post yesterday. Got home from work put on my oil changing clothes went to the garage fridge grabbed a beer, pulled the BX halfway out of the garage, looked at the size of the drain plug went to my millimeter socket drawer pulled the right socket on the first try. Grabbed another beer. Grabbed the oil pan I use to change the oil on the quad. Loosened the plug. Thought dam that's coming out fast. $%#! where is the big oil pan! I'm used to changing fluids on quads, motorcycles, powerwashers etc. smaller things you get the point. About a gallon on the garage floor by the time I got the bigger pan. Yelled that I needed every crappy towel we had in the house. Cleaned it up. Grabbed my one gallon of $5000 Super UDT crap and dumped it in. Yeah I know it holds 3.3 gallons if my memory is correct. 8:00 nothing open. So do I start it to get it back in the garage? Loader was down. !@#* it start it. Took 10 seconds for me to figure out the loader won't budge; not enough fluid. Turned it off. Put it in neutrel. Picked up the loader slightly and pushed like ****. I was able to shut the gargage. Grabbed a Jack Daniels on the rocks and went down to water the vegetable garden. So it is easy if you know how much freakin fluid is in there.

I think knowing isn't or wouldn't have helped much in your situation.:D I think knowing and having it on hand would have been the correct answer.:drink:
