Looking at a project where an electric motor and a speed reducer will be required.
My question is can I install the 10:1 speed reducer with the out put shaft facing straight up. This will lay the breather on the side. Or what about extending the air breather to the top ?

Is it a right angle speed reducer or inline? Many speed reducers I've seen have multiple plugs to fill/drain/install breathers in different places for different orientations. Either way you should be able to find literature for whichever you are using that will give recommendations.

Its a right angle 8494130.jpg8494130.jpg8494130.jpg

I need the 1" pointing straight up but that will leave the breather at the side mid point.

Or this one that will leave the breather on the bottom.

Have not seen either of these to see if the breather can be repositioned.

Plumb an elbow into the breather hole with a section of straight pipe at the other end, running up, vertically, and extending above the g-box; then add the breather to the end of that?

I did something similar. I had to tap a new hole for the breather. It has to be above the oil level, preferably on the top, or the oil will leak out. If the worm is turning at motor speed it should throw enough oil to lubricate the bearing which will be above the oil level if the shaft is facing up.

I used a right angle gear reducer with a C face for my chicken plucker and it has worked well now for years

Surplus Center

I think this is the one I used for mine,
if not the model it looks the same in construction,
10:1 RA GEAR REDUCER 0.77 HP 56C RIGHT OUTPUT

picture of the plucker in the web page, How to Butcher a Chicken, Part 1: Preparing Your Work Space; Killing, Scalding and Plucking Chickens
Would be nice to find a C face setup . I am building a plucker also. I have a belt drive now but just sold it . I wanted to build one with a chain drive or a PTO then I seen a reducer and started to think.
Does yours have a bearing on the shaft for the spinner?
I was going to build a Whiz bang style again buts yours looks light .
