Baby on the way

I was worried when we found out it was a girl. I wasn't sure if we would have anything in common. Then she was here and I made sure that I included her in everything I was doing. Now we are two peas in a pod and love to go out and work together.
She loves building stone walls with me, goes fishing with me, hiking in the woods, gardening, shooting her pellet gun, shooting her bow, etc. You will see that the time you put in has such great payback.

When we had our first child, and we found out we were having a girl, I couldn't believe the number of people that offered me condolences similar to as if I'd lost a family member. In all honesty, I was thrilled to be having a daughter. My mother had two sons (my brother and me, obviously), and my brother and his wife had given birth to two sons as well, so my mother had never had a little girl to have around. And of course, my daughter has been a blessing (and a handful).

When we had our second child, I was hopeful for a boy, just so we would have "one of each" and sure enough, that's what we got. And by that token, I felt good for my wife's parents, because they had two daughters (my wife and her sister) and my wife's sister had two girls - so now my boy is the only grandson on that side of the family, my daughter is the only granddaughter on the other side of the family.

In the end, as long as they get here healthy and safe and mama's okay, that's really all that matters...

Congratulations, good luck and take care.

No age worries, I'm 38, the wife is 41 and baby #4 will be here in August (oldest is 12). plastic shopping bags for the win for nappy disposal. Nursing for the win for feeding the little heathens, 3 so far had never had formula and probably saved us 1000s. We use washables during the day and disposables at night also saving a mint, try Ecobums from wally world.

No worries about the girl, mine can change oil, shoot any of my firearms and dig a ditch as well as most her size (she's the 12 year old).

The first argument my youngest had with her husband was over tools. She was putting some piece of furniture together, with her mother helping, when he got home from work. He was going to take over the job telling her she probably didn't even know what an Allen wrench was. In the ensuing discussion he was told that, "my dad didn't have sons so my sister and I had to do all the things a son would normally do like using tools".

Don't rule out doing tractor stuff with girls. Our 14 month old girl is as sweet as can be, but also curious and very interested in helping me with projects. She's in love with my tractor, so I just ordered her a tractor toy. I'm sure my wife will do plenty of girly-girly stuff with her, but I fully plan to turn her into my outdoorsy fishing/hiking/skiing and home project buddy (I need one).

Little girls love their daddy and make him feel special...very special. Mine thought their daddy could do anything.

Thanks everyone. My wife thinks our daughter will be a little princess, we that might be but she will be a princess that can shoot, drive the tractor, and do other "boy" things.

Little girls are a mystery in my family. I come from a family of four boys and one girl. Together, I and my siblings have six boys and zero girls.

I used to work with a guy who had two teenage daughters and no sons. I recall some lamentations regarding trips to the mall. I clearly remember him saying "All I want is just a little fishing boat ..."

Boy or girl, I guess healthy is the important thing. They will all become unique individuals, and not always what you foresee.

We just had the sonogram (sp ?) to find out the sex of the baby. It's a girl! Honestly I was hoping for a boy so we could do tractor stuff together later but a girl is fine too.
I wouldn't trade my girls for anything! Well, maybe some piece and quiet, but that's about the only thing!!!

Coming from a family with something like 15 girls between me, my dad, his dad and my mom's dad.... you'll be fine!

My little princesses both have black belts in Karate. Prince Charming better mind his business!
