These posts knocking the capacity of the 1/2 tons Rams crack me up. First off and I've said this before, most people don't care. They put what they want in the bed and tow what they want and if its over the limit, they don't care and/or don't understand. Second off for the people that do care, DON'T BUY ONE. Ram offers a 3/4 ton or 1 tons that will handle just about anything.

I don't car if your Volvo, Toyota, your Smart Car can carry more weight than a Ram 1500, lets see you stick a fridge in the back of a Smart Car or Priusus.

The point is that some people don't want a 3/4 or 1 ton truck when they can do the work with a half ton. Pretty simple.

Personally, I would much rather drive a 1/2 ton truck around daily than a 3/4 ton if the 1/2 ton would do the work I needed. Half tons are just easier to live with on a daily basis.

Then I guess the Ram 1500 isn't for you. Its not like they are hiding the capacities of these trucks.

That's what many are pointing out! It won't haul and tow to their expectations (or to the level of the competition), so it's not going to cut it for them. I think the Ram 1500 is a great truck for what it is, but with those payload ratings, it's not meant to tow and haul regularly for many folks, including the travel trailer crowd. Don't even think about hooking up a travel trailer with enough firewood for the weekend and expect to bring along the family as well (and remain within payload ratings)! And for some people, that's fine. For those who like to stay within limits, it's not fine.

One thing's for sure...you can't knock the success of the Ram recently. They have gained tremendous market share and are selling tons of trucks!

In reality, this truck could be just as capable (maybe more?) than any other half ton on the road, but others are just a little more optimistic.

Rest assured, if the Ram could handle more, Ram would rate it more.

I'm not so sure, as stated most people don't seem to care. Then it just comes to CYA. People are going to buy the truck and do what they are going to do with it. Manufacturers want a way to ease liability. Ram, especially under it's new ownership probably isn't as brave as others. I don't recall the older rams (like until mid 2k) being any less competetive than the others.

The people on this forum are far more scrutinizing than the general public. I see numbers for payload and towing capacity thrown around here all of the time. I hardly ever hear anyone talk of this outside of here. I know many people that drive trucks (and work them, hard) that probably couldn't tell me what their gvwr is let alone their tow rating.

These are farmers, contruction company owners, and just general "truck" guys. I used to ask a lot of questions to people like this because I am always curious, but after countless "I don't know" responses or shoulder shrugs, I quit asking.

I agree, it is sad that people are obliviously driving grossly overloaded vehicles daily. Hopefully forums such as this reach out beyond the smart tractor demographic types and educate those who don't know better. The fact people don't know better is not a good argument when there are other options that are proper. Obviously people don't read or care what is printed in their owners manual. One of the reasons for the obliviousness is that manufactures purposely build a vehicle to haul, put 6 seats in it, a trailer hitch, and make it look tough and indestructible and people think it can do anything.

No manufacturer should produce any type of vehicle that cannot fill all its seats with 150 lb adults. I am surprised that it is even legal with all the goofy warning label laws in place today to protect the oblivious and those who the oblivious hurt and kill. Surely everyone would agree with this???
