Buying Advice It's come down to Mahindra 3616 and Kubota L3800

Just my 2 cents, we bought a 3616 last year and absolutely love it. It's a great machine. I've been looking forward to putting every hour on it.

The 3616 seems to have about the same specs and tires for that matter that my Kioti has. It is definitely a more capable lifting machine than my old L3400hst was.

A good dealer and close proximity are important to me. Time and quality support is worth money so I don't just compare sticker prices. I would definitely get in the seat of both and drive them before buying. Would you ever not do that buying a car! And I think it is even more important in a tractor decision. Ergonomics is a factor for me as well. I kinda tall.

I'll pitch in since I own the 3016 which is the same tractor as the 3616 but with smaller engine. I also checked out the Kubota L3200 which is the same as the 3800 but with smaller engine. It is unfortunate in this case that you are going by "stats" as they can be meaningless if your tractor duties do not need extra lift, breakout or larger implements. Forget about buying reliability as that is a crapshoot no matter what you buy. Quality of build imo the Kubota wins hands down. The 16 is kind of Fred Flintstone in its controls as it is built to a price point. My reasons for buying the 3016 were several and they all had to do with ergonomics and design. First, I use mine for skidding logs out of the tight forests here in N.E. I needed access to the tractor from both sides. Couldn't do that with the Kubota because its fel control lever was in the way on the right side. Secondly, the tie rods on the Kubota where they are placed, would have been destroyed in my woods with all of its ground obstructions and stick ups. As far as build, my preference goes to the Kubota. It just couldn't live in my world however with its other issues. The 16 has indeed done everything I have asked of it and it is a fine machine in its own right. To make a long story shorter, the most important issue for such a decision has everything to do with usage...your usage.

Personally after looking at and researching both recently I prefer the Kubota. However I think a kioti would be my choice.

Although you may never sell it, think resale. Which name would be the easiest to sell say 10 years from now? I would think the Kubota.

Great advise/comments from everyone. I sure wish I could have them side by side and spend a few hours driving both. Now gonna make a run down south to drive the Mahindra again. I drove both tractors briefly. Not more than 5/10 minutes.

But you know if you ask google what is the number one selling tractor...it says Mahindra. Isn't there a reason behind that??

Isn't there a reason for this??

Any hoops to go through bringing the Mahindra into Washington as Oregon has no Sales Tax?
.

I have heard that when living in Washington and buying a car in Oregon you still owe sales tax. I had a distant relative living out there that worked for the State Gubbamint and his job was to track these things down to bring in more "revenue*" (taxes). I would suspect tractor purchases would be the same.

*slays me to have any government call tax money "revenue". To me that is a business term, "tax" is a government term.

Yes. There are a lot of small farms in India, where Mahindra is based.

The number one selling tractor brand by revenue is John Deere.

Mahindra dealer is in Eugene, OR. Approx 3 hours away, 150 miles.
Kubota is 1 hour, 43 miles.

RE: WARRANTY / TRANSPORT COST

Do you believe the Mahindra dealer is going to drive 300 miles round trip to provide on site warranty service?

If the dealer trailers your tractor in/out for service, warranty or otherwise, his transportation COST is going to be 600 miles X $1.25 per mile = $750, which will NOT be covered by the warranty.

Kubota transportation cost 172 miles X $1.25 = $215, which will NOT be covered by the warranty.

Neither dealer may be willing to transport at cost.

If you transport your tractor, your cost will be the same, if you value your time appropriately.

I am not pro or con Mahindra or Kubota but you have to consider transportation. For me, dealer proximity is important.
