A HARD PTO PROBLEM TO SOLVE

are there torque limiters after the main shaft is split?

IE. on my jd batwing, i hav a pto shaft that feeds a 3 head gearbox, there is a master torque limiter, that 3 headed box has 3 shafts , one rear, two at 45 , one out each side. there is a small Tl on each shaft.

i have a 10' mower with a torque limiter and that feeds a divider box, out each side of the divider box is a flexi coupler to a side box. the flexi couplers arent much mor ethan 2 flanges that set real close and are each bolted to a thick rubber/cord reinforced pad. so all driving force is transmitted thru from flange to pad to flange.. so there is some give inthe rubber.

check our your side that appears to be slipping and make sure it has no torque limiter that may be loose or slipping. no ORC that may have bad dog clutches, or no shear pin that may be slipping and catching, or no yoke that may be spinning inside a shaft and sometimes catching.

post back.

botton line, if one side is being driven. tractor pto is FINE.. sometheing else is going on.

to help us not GUESS so much.. how about help us help you and post a PIC of this machine so we can see what drive architecture we are dealing with.

Hey Soundguy, I have something better. The mower is a Landpride RC2512, if you go to their web page and look under rotary cutters you will find the RC2512 and it has the parts manual in pdf format. This mower I bought it new and this is my 3rd year with it. Started having the problems with it at the end of the grass season during the 1st year. I have taken it to two dealers and they have inspected saying nothing is wrong. They even removed the gear box covers. I have connected it to another tactor and it cuts fine like it should. I will go over it again just in case I did miss something and look for those areas that you mention. Thanks for the input cause I am taking all advice to heart. I am ceratinly puzzled about this.

i'll take a look.. but may be hard to follow on my phone.

bottom line. if oe side of the mower is driving.. then it's getting power from the tractor..

in situations where i think a shaft might be slipping.. or a yoke slipping. i make witness marks with a pin prick or a tire crayon.. then run them and make sure the lines are all still lined up.

i have seen a yoke spin in a shaft under load but looking at it and feeling on it you couldn't move it even with a pipe wrench..

ok.. on just the first page.. i see that the main driveline is cat 4 constant velocity, that hits a 3 head box like my jd mower.. then it uses cat 3 drivelines to each other head with mower spindles. and THOSE have slip clutches...

that's where i'd look.... the slip clutch on the spindle that is missbehaving.

also make sure it's pto shaft has not spun inside itself... nor the 2 yoke ends or the connection to and from the slip clutch.. which could be either splined or smooth and bolted.

Check blade orientation for the spindle its on. Are they counter rotating or parallel rotation ?

My bet is for the slip clutch. Did you burn the coating off the clutches-or did you just start mowing? Some clutches come with a coating on them that is like a glazed coating this allows dealers to let them sit outside. Clutches should be loosened up so they slip and burn this off. Then tighten back down so they do their job. Yours may have started to slip after the first half of mowing season 1. Soundguys crayon trick will tell you if this is the problem. good luck. You have grass I do not know how the dealership duplicates this for testing.

my bet is they 'look' at it, and say it fine. the tractor is the problem, without actually testing it. .. but that's just my cynical guess...

I marked the clutches and I have checked all of the pto axles and everything looks good. I used the mower on Monday and I have found that it is streaking grass on both sides. I got into some really tall grass, low speed, running at 2000 rpms and the same results. Put the mower through 2 hours of operation. Checked all the marks and nothing has moved. It appears that I am losing some pto power? What would cause that? I have replaced pto clutches, checked hydraulic pressure. What else can I check?

DUDE! if one side cuts fine.. you are NOT loosing PTO POWER!

I'd check to see if you are running the grass down and that is where it is streaking.,

What else can I check?

Tip it on its side or end and show us a pic of the underside of this mower. Also a top view. Let's take a look ...
