***** Quick Update ******
So one salesman out of four has responded so far. Claims to have found one truck within 300 miles that meets my requirements except that it is white (I can deal with a white truck). Stated that MSRP was around 46,000 and he would let it go for invoice less the 3500 in rebates, so around 40,601.05. However he did not provide any details to back up his claim that it meet my needs.

I shot back an email confirming his asking price and requesting to see a copy of the window sticker and VIN. Even if this doesn't pan out, its much more comfortable and empowering to be doing this from the house instead a sales lot.

That seems high for a truck that's got a new model coming out in a month.

To give you an idea we just got a new 2014 F150 SuperCrew Eco Boost last Thursday. It's a FX4 with leather, brake controller, navigation, power sunroof, 20" wheels, 3.73 gears, ect, ect. It's Red Metallic with black interior.

We paid $2000 less and it stickered for a few dollars more than what your looking at.

I;m following this thread with interest, as I'm planning on buying a truck in the fall. Leaning Chevy right now, but have no brand loyalty. The Chevy website says the max tow package has more than just a different gear ratio.

Automatic locking rear differential
9.76" rear axle
3.73 rear axle ratio
Integrated trailer brake controller
Enhanced cooling radiator
Revised shock tuning for increased control

Does that other stuff matter much?

I found when pricing (via the Chevy website at least), one you add on the 5.3 and the towing package, you are just a stones throw away from the LTZ...I know, its marketing to get people to spend more, but it seems like it works!

Always buy 24 to 48 hours before the end of month. Expect to spend the time to visit at least 2 dealers in person. I ended up getting a loaded 2013 3500 LTZ for 54 K with $ 1000 in free accessories because I was a business owner. Sticker price was 64K almost 65K.
You are making a large purchase and it is worth your time to put time and effort into it. All of the Internet salesmen fell out around 60K or just did not return emails.
Good Luck

this is good advice!

It matters if you tow and use your truck for work.

Sounds like a nice truck and similar to what I looked at. You got a good deal too it appears. If I tried to get such a deal from either of my two Ford dealers they would laugh me right out the door.

Well unfortunately I have to report that life has gotten in the way of being able to purchase a truck Sierra or otherwise for the moment. Mom ran into some unexpected financial difficulties relating to not paying enough quarterlies last year and her new CPA not catching the mistake during tax prep. The upside is that it is survivable, and she has an extension. The downside, if you can call it that, is that the truck down payment is going towards rectifying mother's situation. Point being is that is will be another several months before we will be able to afford to get a vehicle. I'm just happy that we have the funds to take care of things

I apologize if I have wasted anyone's time with this thread. I do appreciate all of the information and it will be extremely useful in the future when we are able to replace the jeep. Thanks again for all the support.

I agree, my target was 35-37K, with Ga. state ad valorem and title/tag transfer fees running ~2500.00. Not necessarily a steal, but
what I was shooting for seemed to be within the ballpark of what Edmunds and Consumer Reports were saying was reasonable for similarly equipped trucks in my area.

Aww well, hopefully in another 5 months or so we might be able to try this again.

No problem Panik. That is smart taking care of the needs first instead of the wants. Good Luck!

Thanks! The luck was having the funds between mom's savings and the down payment to be able to take care of business! 'Sides she has and will likely continue to save my behind when I get it in a sling

Fiziksgeek, I will say and I can't stress this enough, the idea of phone negotiating was so much less stressful than dealing with sales lots. I plan to use it down the road when we are ready.

Also, the sales guy who first found the truck I was looking for this morning will likely be getting my first phone call/email next time around. Normally I don't have a lot of empathy for car sales folks, but I did feel bad calling him back and explaining the situation. He was Johnny on the spot and supposedly located the only exact match (paint excluded) within 300 miles, significantly more quickly than any of the other folks even responded.

I got about $8K off sticker when I bought a few weeks ago. I think sticker was $46K if I remember right.
