2014 Sierra 1500 Axlle Ratios 3.42 vs 4.73

Well unfortunately I have to report that life has gotten in the way of being able to purchase a truck Sierra or otherwise for the moment. Mom ran into some unexpected financial difficulties relating to not paying enough quarterlies last year and her new CPA not catching the mistake during tax prep. The upside is that it is survivable, and she has an extension. The downside, if you can call it that, is that the truck down payment is going towards rectifying mother's situation. Point being is that is will be another several months before we will be able to afford to get a vehicle. I'm just happy that we have the funds to take care of things

I apologize if I have wasted anyone's time with this thread. I do appreciate all of the information and it will be extremely useful in the future when we are able to replace the jeep. Thanks again for all the support.

I agree, my target was 35-37K, with Ga. state ad valorem and title/tag transfer fees running ~2500.00. Not necessarily a steal, but
what I was shooting for seemed to be within the ballpark of what Edmunds and Consumer Reports were saying was reasonable for similarly equipped trucks in my area.

Aww well, hopefully in another 5 months or so we might be able to try this again.

I think everything happens for a reason. This financial setback may be for the good.

By the time you are ready to buy the 2015 trucks will be out and it will be rolling into the holidays. The incentive packages and pricing will be better as will the trucks. At the time you are ready to buy go look at all 5 brands again and see what is the best for your family and your wallet.

Yes, agree, I think the 2015 F-150 will reset the competitive landscape and be worth consideration for sure. I would have waited until then if I didn't find anything I liked right now.

Agreed, as it was Ford was a very close second to the Sierra for me and that was based on purely personal preference. If I am totally honest, either vehicle in a standard V8/V6 Ecoboost flavor should more than fit the utilitarian side of my needs. Discussion about axle ratios aside, my current requirements are well within the ratings and performance capabilities of GMC/Dodge/Chevy/'Yota 1/2tons.

*Cue evil grin* Chris, I'm already plotting and planning about 6 mos down the road for an early Christmas present.

I was pretty happy to see so many options when shopping for pickups -- it's a good time to be a pickup buyer, especially if you don't have a brand bias and can keep an open mind going in. Test drives, pricing, and availability quickly narrowed down the field for me. When I looked 2-3 years ago, it was almost no-contest for Ford, mainly due to lack of compelling competition (in my opinion). Will be interesting to see how the 2015 F-150 changes things (the only part I am not sold on is the looks, and I would still want to evaluate the interior quality and the driving feel, which were weak points for Ford this time around).

Traded the Ford on a '13 Sierra this time. Dealer attitude, noise and ride sold me on the GMC. Neighbors F150 EB and my v8 are getting the same average MPG so why pay extra for the turbo CAC problems when the V8 is great?

The 2013 5.3 liter is a dog compared to the ecoboost and yet they get the same MPG? That is a no brainer for most. Now the 2014 5.3 liter is a judgment call because it produces respectable power, yet still less than the ecoboost, and it gets better MPG than the ecoboost.

Because the EB has 25% more HP and torque than the 5.3L GM. Watch any of the towing competition test put on by the truck magazines and the EB blows the doors off of all competition from GM, Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota.

At slow speed pulling farm equipment, my V8 pulls better. It would be funny seeing you spool up them EB turbos pulling a hay wagon, then having to pick up the bales at the side of the road.

Yeah I can't say a whole lot bad about the ecoboost but when I was shopping I didn't want one and the salesman seemed offended by that. I wanted the 5.0, those things haul and they sound great! They seem to be even with the current 5.3 in my '14 Silverado.

I would lean toward the 5.0 also. The neighbor bought the EB to pull the small horse trailer but chooses to use the V10 instead. Too bad he now has another truck payment for something he doesn't use.
