Crofab is made in the USA by BTG for pit vipers. Most all EDs stock it. It works well by inactivating the venom to prevent further damage. For coral snakes you treat the symptoms. As a neurotoxin it affects breathing and can cause cardiovascular collapse. Intubation and a ventilator for the breathing part, fluids and drugs for the cardiovascular problems. Then just wait for it to wear off.

Guess I'm wrong , they must not be federally protected but in Missouri and il it's illegal to kill snakes period! Unless they pose a threat ! My nieces husband is a warden and he's always harassing me! Not serious of course but things have definately changed in il! It's nearly communistic here! my cousin killed a big rattler ! Took it to a local coffee shop and showed some people, somehow the wardens got a song of it , came to his house and arrested him, got a huge fine. I know it's crazy but it happened .

But doesn't it depend on how much of a threat the snake is in the circumstances? A copperhead or a rattler on a trail in a remote area can be moved off without harming it. One near the house, or where children, pets or livestock are is a whole 'nuther thing. As my granddad used to say, "Boy, they gotta' eat too!"

I live in NH. Only poisonous snakes we have here are eastern timber rattlers, and those are only over Hillsborough County on the south-western corner of the state. I've heard that hogs like to eat snakes too. Doesn't matter if they're poisonous or not. Guess where our wild hog population is? Yep. SW part of the state.

Opossums are immune to rattlesnake and copperhead venom, and will eat the snakes if the snakes aren't too large; otherwise the snake may eat the possum instead.

If a poisonous snake is within 50 feet of the house, that qualifies as a nuisance in my book. Run them over with the lawn mower and there isn't a darn thing the snake huggers can do about it, protected, endangered, or whatever.

In MIssouri it does matter. In fact, the Conservation Department's website even says a venomous snake in close proximity to people can be killed. Seems to me if you can kill it you are going to be in close enough proximity.
