Well, at least it should have hurt enough that the squirrel doesn't want it to happen again so he goes somewhere else?:laughing:

That's not my experience at all.

I shoot "many" rodents through the summer months. Two today (the strawberry thieves !) Grays, reds and ground squirrels. Most every shot is a pass through even with the .22 at about 680fps.
There is a definite "plop" when a body shot is made, but those critters don't go far.

It's my experience that higher velocity pellet guns are more difficult to shoot accurately, they are very sensitive to how they are held when fired.
Pellet choice could also be an issue where some penetrate others impact and seem to bounce off only stunning they momentarily.

Not sure on the pellet specifics... the person that brought the air rifle over hadn't used if for awhile... was accurate with a paper target at 25 yards.

Sharp pointed pellets penetrate much better than flat nosed pellets, which are designed for making nice round holes in paper.
