Tinnitus making me mental

That's interesting. I don't think I'd heard of any connection there, and now I don't remember the dates for sure, but along about the time I had both wisdom teeth on the left side removed was also about the time I first saw an ENT specialist and learned about tinnitus. However, the female dentist who removed those two did so with only the injection for anesthetic and had no trouble pulling them. Then on April 16, 2010, I had both wisdom teeth on the right side removed and I think the oral surgeon who did that just routinely puts everyone to sleep to do any extractions. Anyway, I don't think he had any problem at all and it didn't take long.

Some folks have wisdom teeth that never pop through the gums as well as some hidden that grow sideways. One theory is that they can cause tinnitus in some cases.
Too many could be's for tinnitus just like for so many other ailments.

Sad, but true. The doctor I saw in the early 80s attributed it to the noise of my guns. But I'll admit that I also used to play my southern gospel quartet music with good bass singers way too loud. But in the long run, I really have no idea what caused my tinnitus or my hearing loss. Those loud noises MAY have aggravated it, but maybe not.

Went for a ride yesterday, a short one only about 150 miles. I usually have ear buds in and music(low volume), but instead I used shooting earplugs thinking it would help. Nope, after the ride and still today my Tin is worse.....what the ???? Vibration? Wind? Sunlight? good grief.................

Vibration and wind..
Do you ever hear your heart beating inside either ear?

Not for 30+ years...too noisy in here now to hear that:laughing:

Not hearing your heart in an ear is a good thing.
You might want to have your wife check your ears for wax build up ( or in your case builders dust and wax:) )
You can get a little scope like the doctors use with a magnifier and light for less than $10 at a drugstore chain.
Wax build up will make your hearing worse and the tinnitus louder. If you haven't had a hearing test for a while
most hearing aid sales places will give you a free one. You will know, even before they show you the results, if you have loss, usually at higher frequencies, from the longer time periods between when you hear the sound.
The sudden increase in your tinnitus that has continued for a couple weeks now is an indication of something wrong.

It's called gettin OLD-ER:D A friend the other day mentioned that after 40 "it's all part of the dying process"

I was just at the ENT and no wax. I guess I will just have to wait and see if it gets better or my brain tunes it out. No aspirin now for a couple of weeks so I can rule that out. Miller High Life does not lessen it, but I can't bring myself to stop using it for {other} medicinal purposes. Cutting & splitting firewood this week...that has to help right? .................Yes I wear ear protection:)

My mom used to say, "just wait till you get my age, then you'll know what it is like"

Bird and I could say that to you, youngster:D

I wouldn't say my tinnitus is cured by any stretch but the improvement I've had in the last year is so significant that its almost a non issue these days. I firmly believe that if you tackle the problem, rather than try and ignore it, then some degree of self-healing is possible. I do not believe that its always an incurable condition!

Heres my tips...

ALWAYS wear ear protection. DONT say to yourself that its too late to bother with ear protection. You must stop the problem worsening and you must help your ears to start healing themselves. Nowadays I always wear hearing protection when I'm driving the tractor or the mower or using any power tool or using a hammer. My 'muffs' are just very simple lightweight 'headband' style - about $6 each. They are so light you'll forget you are wearing them or have them hanging around your neck. They are very quick and easy to put on, and that's important. Its pointless having earmuffs or plugs that you dont like to wear. I have about 4 pair of them lying around in easy reach.

Keep your ears clean and dry. I religiously dry my ears every morning after showering with those little cotton bud stick thingies. It takes some practice and care to do it right but its worth it. I believe that bacteria has a negative effect on 'self healing', and wet ears are great breeding grounds for bacteria.

Disinfect your ears with methylated spirits occasionally. 2 or 3 times each week I put a couple of drops of meths in each ear for a few seconds , then dry them with a cotton stick. Following from the point above I think this is also a good way to eliminate bacteria.

Give up or cut down your smoking. As a very occasional smoker I can tell you that it dramatically worsens the tinnitus whenever I have a smoke. Its almost like turning on a nature sound track. So if you smoke regularly and you have tinnitus you better decide your priorities. I think alcohol also has a negative effect but its not so strong.

A couple of years ago I was pretty depressed about my tinnitus. Nowadays it doesn't bother me much at all. Sure, I'm probably just 'used to it' to some extent but I do believe that I have actually reduced the ringing. So dont give up, it might take a long time to hear the results but its well worth persisting.
