Never done this before - but any chance you could cut off what you need at the bottom where it is bracketed to the mini after removing the brackets, then weld the brackets back on? For the small amount of welding you might even take it to a shop and have it done professionally or have the welds certified to keep the ROPS' integrity and loose the possibility of liability. Just a thought. Keep us posted however you go and remember - we love pictures.

The ROPS is a certified safety device. Any professional welding shop that would shorten and re weld your ROPS would assume liability should your tractor roll over and have the ROPS fail possibly injuring the operator or worse. Many here have done their own. I'm doubtful you will find a shop that wants that liability.

I reckon you told me.....

Only trying to point out some facts.
However, there are many good welders here that have modified their own ROPS. If I had that problem I would do my own since I confident in my welding skills but wouldn't weld anyone else's.

Setting aside the ROPS cert issue, the highest stress (bending) should you roll over will likely be at the base connection to your tractor. Thus you would be messing with the most critical area of the ROPS.

How about doing away with the ROPS and going whole-hog on a roll cage from a super stock pulling rig? :)

Just a different thought. What if you just cut it off at the height you want and then weld a new cross piece in? You would probably want to weld some sort of cap onto the end to keep it sealed. I think it would be a lot easier to weld.

I think you should preserve the curved section. Welding a cross piece that causes a corner will be a stress concentration and surely be where it fails. :2cents:
