Don we are happy that you are happy. We do like having you around. The worst thing that can happen is when someone has to make a change in their lives and they hate it.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn has just finished another study on heart disease which will be published soon. No changes for me. Yesterday my Cardiologist gave me the thumbs up on my annual, and next month I continue year two of the Century Study. Nothing like being in the middle knowing the decision you make will be the difference between life and death and then seeing results to really appreciate a plant based diet.

I'm not changing my diet either, TxDon. I am active and healthy. If you could allow yourself bacon, you would find that the bacon BlueRiver has raised to be absolutely awesome!!! Has me almost ready to try to raise my own!! Just easier to let him do it, especially after he had to go out in the cold to tend to the farrowing sows last winter! :D

Here is an article on nitrites that you might find interesting. Be careful about eating those veggies!

Sodium Nitrite

Be careful what you post, remember do no harm. I know it's confusing but the very short videos below will clarify it for you.

I'm not doing any harm, TxDon. However, you pushing things condoned by the pharmaceutical companies, telling you to lower your cholesterol might be harming many. And while you are spouting about your doctor's beliefs, remember, his training, as well as his yearly Continuing Education, is all sponsored and taught by those on the payroll of the pharmaceutical (and indirectly thru them, food) companies. Following such is truly a conflict of interest, not really using one's brain!

Sort of reminds me of the story about the guy and gal out necking behind the bushes. The guy asks, "Would you sleep with me for a million dollars?" To which she relied, "You bet I would!" Then the guy asks, "Would you sleep with me for a quarter?" To which the girl replied, "What do you think I am?"

The guy calmly relied, "Honey, we've already established what you are. Now we are just haggling over the price."

Most doctors have their price, no matter if they admit it or not. And the big companies, be it pharmaceutical or food (Monsanto, Cargill, etc), etc., buy the doctors with luncheons, vacations and many other amenities. Next time you are at your doctor's office, (which seems to be awfully frequently for someone that is as healthy as you claim to be), ask him/her who sponsors their studies.

Well I for one don't know about all the hog wash written on the great big web ... I do know however when my name comes up in a post .. Either intended to be related or not .. I will stand my ground about my BACON!!!

Read all you want but remember this ... Every hog on this farm is all natural 100% non GMO fed pork .. No injections, antibiotics, hormones ... The best of the best .. Whatever you eat veggies or meat you owe it to yourself to each the best available !!!

Calm down FG19.

#1. A yearly exam by a cardiologist after a heart attack is not anyones definition of "awfully frequent". So you are wrong there.
#2 You have no idea the conversation the Dr. and I had about cholesterol - one of his statement was the cholesterol numbers are not the most important thing. So you are wrong there.
#3 All medical CEU's are not sponsored by the pharmaceutical companies. Here is just two of many, please check out their sponsors. International Conference on Diabetes | Physicians Committee also 301 Moved Permanently So you are wrong there.
#4 Did you actually watch the videos that tell about the carcinogenic effect of nitrites in bacon.
#5 The 2013 Sunshine Act (Part of Obama Care) has started and it requires doctors to report a transfer of anything between a company and a physician that has a value above $10. Cumulative gifts totaling $100 or more over a year must be reported. So now there is a law to track, and not to report is breaking the law.
#6 You are right that some, but not all, doctors push way too many drugs, but that is because their patients will not change their eating habits, smoking habits, non movement habits, etc. . . and request the drugs (from TV adds).

Blueriver, don't plan on going out of business anytime soon, last year 1.1 billion servings of bacon were sold in the U.S. A.. Is your 100% natural bacon contain nitrites?

BlueRiver; Would you please PM me when you have more of those hogs going to slaughter? I still say that is the best bacon that I have had in many years. My only complaint is that I did buy enough!!

As far as continuing arguing with TxDon, well, I think we just have to agree to disagree. I could go thru your most recent list, but I will not.

1. I do not have time. I am going to be airborne at daybreak! Going to have a little fun before work!

2. I do not want to make the Texas Thread a food debate thread. Making this thread about food and diet will only serve to make it a slow and less participated in thread. It has already lost a lot of great, fun postings and participation from some regulars, after the zealous moderating it received last winter.

Make it a great day!!

Have a great day flying FG19. looks like a good day to be up in the sky. I have to take a sink apart to replace a hot water heater, going back with a tankless - I'd rather be tractoring.

Don ... My understanding is that some nitrates come from the curing process of bacon ... Our body itself produces them.. . I also understand that our own saliva has more nitrates and we take in nitrates every time we sallow. A lot of different controversy on the subject .. As Forest said ... That's all I got to say about that !!

I used to know an old guy whose favorite saying was, "If I had a farm in Texas and a home in ****, I'd sell the farm and go home."
