kOua....Frontier purchased Verizon to provide rural landline services several years back....THEY supplied the router and deliver the landline service, Verizon is my cell provider and BOTH of them deliver such crappy performance it makes me furious. My feelings were and always will be, if they can provide urban customers with five bars of cell coverage and 15 mbps download, since I pay the same price for service as the urban dwellers do for both cell and internet, there is NO EXCUSE for my not getting the same quality of service here. NONE. I don't give a flying f*ck what it costs them to deliver that same quality to me, if they can't , then raise the price to urban subscribers who get 10X the service for the same price and let THEM pay 10X for what they get. PERIOD!!!!!

So... do you think you should get first class four lane highway to your vary house, no matter the costs. Heck, why should you have to drive 30 minutes to a hospital; you should have one built right next to your house, no matter the cost; cause you deserve exactly the same service at no extra cost? Water and sewer should be ran an unlimited distance, for free oof coarse, because it's unfair you don't have it.

It's the real world, money is limited, and you have no god given right to excellent phone service. You do however have the right to stop paying for it.

Edit: I do think they (Telecoms) should have more information about where there service works before you sign a contract; and some realistic speeds. Yes, you buy UP TO 15 mb/s, but it would be nice if they told you before the install, that your speed would be about 5-10% of that. Those big coverage maps are fine, but the seem very optimistic, lots of areas that show coverage have little, intermittent, or no service.

Doug I am glad it is resolved.. did you recognize the cable folks.? were they a local 3rd party contractor?

Yup. Private company that does the work.

This is the case with almost all phone companies, cable companies, etc. They have got out of the cable burying business. It's not unusual for it to be several weeks to get the cable buried. I work for a large Telco, it isn't cost effective to be burying our own cable any more. Just like it isn't cost effective to have pay phones any more.

I just signed up for Dish net internet. $69.99/month; 10 mbs, 10 gig data limit. After 10 gigs, it's 128kbs. I HOPE it works well, cause it's a $420 penalty to cancel the 2 year contract. The reason for the change is my wife is fixin to start some online college classes; and Windstream has had 5 days without service in the last two weeks. Install scheduled for friday.

Paul, please post back and let us know how it works out.

I don't have an option where I live for HSI other than satellite. I use Exede, have the 10 gig per month. It's crap, but I have heard they all are. I could use a Cell carrier hot spot I suppose but it's typically ridiculous in price and no unlimited plans.

The price works out to $10 more then Windstream per month. I'm worried about the data limit, and the two year contract. I don't play online games anymore, and neither do the kids, but I like to be able to watch YouTube videos, and such. Sad part is, I could make do with the 128 kbs if that is actually delivered reliably. Once my direct TV contract is up in 6 months, I'll go to dish TV, and get $10/month discount.

I REALLY hope paulharvey has it IN WRITING that the speeds they said would be delivered actually will be. The $420 penalty to cancel his contract is a huge ripoff, because as I have learned, verbal promises are worthless. A subscriber should get it IN WRITING that if the claimed speeds are not as promised they are able to cancel the contract without penalty.

There in writing as "upto speeds" no guarantee of the actual speed. Let's put it this way, what I had didn't work reliably, and I don't yet know how this new set up will do. I can tell you if I can have it work, I'll be very pissed. I don't need blazing speed, just need it to work. It's a gamble...
