Beautiful! Found your thread two weeks ago and only now got to the end. You should be proud of the result! Well worth all the trials and tribulations.

One question on your ceiling fans: Did you have any problem getting them balanced? I ask because I'm on my second Hunter 70" fan and neither would run without shaking. I was leery of using Hampton Bay products, but at this point I'm going to have to replace what I've got...

Thanks for taking all the time to do the write up as well. In the years to come it'll be wonderful to look back on.

There are balancing kits for ceiling fans. Google "hunter fan balance kit"

Larry I'm sure you are correct. There are plenty of tractor projects lined up as well as an unfinished basement to work on.

Sjmarbu - nothing was done to balance the fans even though they did come with balancing weights. We had the two larger ones for the living room as well as 4 of the smaller versions for the bedrooms. All were simply installed straight from the box with no balance kits needed.. We couldn't be more pleased with the fans.

Fantastic! Both Hunters (I sent the first one back under warranty) came with balancing kits, but no amount of weight would stop the shimmy on top speed. The remotes on both aren't reliable, either. The Hampton Bay fan you picked looks better as well, so it's a no brainer to pack up the Hunter and return it to Costco this week and swing by Home Depot for a replacement!

Thanks again,

My experience was similar - we have 4 of these fans and none required any work to get balanced - much easier install then any previous fans I have used.

Updated pics of the outside of the house. The stonework is complete now. Just have to paint the soffits and get our gutters installed to have the outside completely wrapped up. Work has almost completely halted my projects on the inside. I'm hoping to jump back on our trim work next week.

Dude your place is awesome, great taste in finishing touches, if I was wearing a hat I would tip it.

Just an update: I did end up returning the Hunter fan and picking up one of the Hampton Bays. Installation was a snap and right out of the box it was balanced much better than either Hunter. Attempts to get it perfect by adding weight got me nowhere, and it wasn't until I noticed that the blades were not all in the same plane height wise that I was able to fix it. I made up some little cardboard shims and installed them between the blades and bracket to get them all within an eighth inch or so, and now have almost no wiggles. So I'm really happy in that department.

I have noticed, though, that the fan will change speed by itself, and I think once it even came on without me doing anything. That's not a deal breaker, but it does have me wondering about my sanity! ;)

Otherwise, it's a great fan. On high it moves a ton of air without blowing papers all over the room, and it's very comfortable to sit under on low. The remote control is very functional and looks nice, certainly much nicer than the goofy Hunter. And as far as looks goes, the HB is the best looking fan at Home Depot as far as I'm concerned.

And as far as the house goes, all I can do is add yet another WOW!!! To look at what's been accomplished in a little over six months is nothing short of amazing! My project here has been going on for four YEARS, and it was just a remodel. Very, very well done, and thanks for sharing it with us!
