First post but I've been enjoying the site a lot. The title pretty much says it all. I'm thinking of welding 2 hooks, one on each outer edge of my amazing new piranha tooth bar. Maybe I should call Harry???

*looks confused* why would you want hooks on the tooth bar?

lots of folks welding and bolting on hooks to the back/top edge of the bucket for chains, but the tooth bar?

Curious why you would want them on your TB and not on the bucket itself. Seems like you'd be asking a lot from one grade 5 or even grade 8 bolt at each end of the TB.

You're probably right. I've been using the tooth bar a lot and was recently digging out a weeping cherry tree and thought having the hooks at the ends would be handy for pulling out the last few roots. It also seems like the steel of the TB is thicker and stronger than the bucket.

Hi welcome to TBN.. I like the others am thinking this might not be such a good idea. putting pulling stress on the Pirhana tooth bar would be a big no no for me.

Well, most folks "beef up" the uppper lip of the bucket with some angle iron. Some put it across the whole thing, but some just put a 3 or 4 inch piece of 3/8 angle welded to the top and then down to strengthen it. Then weld the hook to the top of that.

I agree with the others, weld them to the bucket not the toothbar.

I bolted on my Ken's hooks with backing plates to the top of the bucket on each side, inline with the hydraulic cylinders. I then run a chain between the two hooks to spread the load evenly and chain up whatever I need to the load chain. To me, hooks on the bucket like this are a necessary requirement, as is 4WD, rear differential lock, HST, grapple bucket, 3PH draft control and extra remotes- front and rear.

^^ THIS

he'll likely quickly be able to tell you exactly why you should or should not try this.
