They have to do something to keep up with the Dodge/RAM innovations. It's win/win for customers either way they choose.

Keep up? Did you watch the video? Lol!

What innovations has Ram added? They have an 8 speed tranny (not produced by Chrysler) and they have the EcoDiesel (again, outsourced). I like the Rambox idea, but what are the real innovations that Ram has brought to the table?

Man, that smoked the Dodge!

Chris

It wasn't even close! So much for that diesel torque towing up steep hills! I can't wait to see the fuel economy numbers on the new 2.7L. I think that thing is going to be a hit!

That video doesn't prove squat in the real world. LOL.

What RPM's was the ford being revved at?
Does the average truck customer want to tow a trailer on a long trip with the engine buzzing, redlining in the range that a gas engine needs to make it's power? Answer:NO!!

It proves more than we can here on a discussion forum!

Do you know how the EcoBoost works? It uses turbo charging and direct injection to make gobs of torque at low RPM. It also has a B R O A D torque curve, very similar to a diesel. But, on top of that, it makes tons more HP than a diesel for the same torque numbers.

And if the Ford driver doesn't want to rev as high, all he just has to do is let off the gas and still beat the Ram up the hill!

The 2.7 looks pretty good on paper (and the ad) but I will be interested in how it holds up long term. May work out great and hope it does because that would pave the road for a lot of new and improved motors in the future. I personally would skip buying one for a few years for fear it may gut itself under heavy work/tow constantly but that is just me.

Sounds like the same thing people brought up when the 3.5L EcoBoost came out. It has proven to be an extremely reliable engine with just a few intercooler issues that have been resolved.

Looks like Ford is intentionally hiding the RPM's you have to twist this little motor to, to make any power. I couldn't find a single google hit to an actual HP@RPM for this. Hmmm... LOL

So at what RPM's does this little buzzing motor make it's 'advertised' HP#, and torque#???

I like to see that ford is using more aluminum. I hope it encourages Dodge and the others to also use it more.
For now, it helps make fords capacity #'s look better, by reducing the vehicle weight.

Yes you are correct but the weight difference does not amount to any sizeable gains in towing (likely several hundred pounds at best) and likely increases the cost to produce he parts substantially. Might payback with better fuel economy but would take quite a while.

Of course it does.
They are advertising up to 700#. That's 700# that can be added to every capacity #.
