GM came out with their 2015 SAE ratings about a month ago for their 1/2 tom trucks. Their ratings stayed about the same.

That's good, it does appear GM is on board with the tow ratings. Lets hope Ford does also.

Ford testing shows the 2.7-liter EcoBoost also outperforming Ram 1500 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3-liter V8 while towing a 7,000-pound enclosed trailer up Davis Dam in Arizona. This is the same grade the Society of Automotive Engineers uses for its J2807 towing testing standards, which the 2015 Ford F-150 will follow.

I like to see that ford is using more aluminum. I hope it encourages Dodge and the others to also use it more.
For now, it helps make fords capacity #'s look better, by reducing the vehicle weight.

Not just LOOK better, they ARE better due to the lighter vehicle weight. Ford has mentioned all along that reducing vehicle weight allows for better payload numbers. Measuring like vehicles (SuperCrew Lariat 4x4), the F150 dropped 732 lbs from '14 to '15. You gotta admit, that's pretty substantial and very impressive!

They have to do something to keep up with the Dodge/RAM innovations.
It's win/win for customers either way they choose.
