That's why I quit 'discussing' this with DarkBlack. He doesn't care about the facts...

Pretty ironic comment from you.
All I've been asking for is the ford facts. I've been asking for the rated rpm "facts" of the engine, and the rpm's of the truck in the video (that now seems to be deleted from this thread). Hmm I wonder why...

Ram 1500 Hemi torque 407@3950, HP 395@5600
3.5 Ecoboost torque 420@2500, HP 365@5000
GM 5.3 torque 383@4100, Hp 355@5600
Ram ecodiesel 420 torque@2000, HP 240@3600

Yeah, I bet the new 2.7 liter will be buzzy. LOL
Direct Injection Turbo charged Gassers make big torque down low. Read up on the technology. In addition, they get to take advantage of revving high to produce big HP unlike a diesel. Best of both worlds in terms of HP and Torque curves.

Like I said, that shows the meaninglessness of the video showing a matted gas engine using high rev gas HP to pull a trailer up a hill faster than a matted diesel that is not revving over 3,600 rpm's.
That's why Ram is selling a lot of these. Most folks don't want to have their engine running @ 5k rpms while hauling a trailer.
When ford "finds" ( cough, cough ) the missing rpm number that the advertised HP of the 2.7 is stated at, I'm guessing it will be near the 5K of the 3.5

I'm not choosing a side in this "discussion" but this is my thinking. I would not want to run any engine at redline. Most engines gas or diesel have their rated horsepower usually close to redline, probably within 500 rpm's most of the time. The difference between the gas or diesel is that a diesel is made to run at rated rpm's continuously where a gas engine is not. If my tractor had a redline it would probably be about 3000, yet I run it for hours at 2700 rpm (which is max hp and pto speed) and never think twice about it. I can't imagine running the engine in my wrangler at 4,000 rpm for very long and it has a redline just over 5000 rpm. Not saying it makes one engine better, their just not the same.

A tractor engine is different than an engine a light duty truck.

The 5.0 mustang has a higher rev limiter than 5.0 F-150. I think the manufacters take into account what the engine is going into and how it is going to be used when they decide were the red line is.

About 2,000 rpm's

A redline is still a redline.

Is it okay to bounce this engine in the dump truck off the rev limiter since it only turns about 2,000 RPMS?

Haha... If someone tried to use this thread to help them choose their next truck, and decide what to avoid, all they would end up avoiding is... TBN.

I've had MANY variants of the major manufacturer's offerings. If you ask me, there are things I loved or hated about each and every one. My best advice, go drive the trucks in the market segment you are considering. Then, talk to current owners about what they like, and what they would change about their truck. I wouldn't ask if they feel it's better than the competitor's brand, too much brand bias.

And any adult that gets into a childish pissing contest over a particular brand of anything... Really?

Rant off.

In the interest of full disclosure, I drive a Dodge. But, then again, I've owned plenty of Fords, and liked them. I've also had my share of Chevys and liked them ok, too. Aw, crap, now EVERYONE will flame me 'cause I couldn't pick a side...

Life's too short, lighten up.

Unless you own stock in a particular manufacturer, then it'd be ludicrous not to root for that brand ;-)

Wanna bet a steak dinner which engine has the highest sales for 2015?

Even though my peak hp is at 5000 on my 3.5, towing 70 mph the torque converter stays locked at 2500 rpm's towing 8000 lbs and downshift a whole lot less than the 3.0 diesel does.

All of the 1500 and 2500 trucks are limited by the weight capacity of only 2 tires. It makes a lot of these towing issues a non event. If you want to check who is giving truck aweigh look to factory RV hauler. They put a lot of miles on then fast. Dodge is the current choice and has been for a few years. That will change over time depending on the financial outlook of each manufacturer and need to sell.
I would like to see Toyota make a 3500 diesel. It might go quickly to the top for reliably and performance.
