I'm not so sure the Hemi would spank the 2.7. The Hemi is pretty comparable to the 5.3 GM and it was on par with the 2.7.

High altitude and in the heat the Ford's simply have an advantage with the turbos.

I didn't say it would spank it, only that it would out-pull it. :) I think it would just slightly. Similar to what the GM 5.3 did on the last pull after the temperatures dropped.

The truck is Aluminum body on a steel frame. I'm not sure what the Obama reference had to do with it...

Seeing this out of the 2.7L makes you wonder what is next for the 3.5L (or it's replacement). The 3.5L is a gen 1 EcoBoost and the 2.7L is a gen 2. Extrapolating the numbers brings us to 420 HP and 485 ft-lbs for a 3.5L with the same HP and torque / liter as the 2.7L.

Actually, that's where the testing for the SAE standards are done.

Not to mention, the Ram has a turbo with it's diesel, does it not?

No reason to think the 2.7L wouldn't take the punishment. The block is the same material as the big diesel. Designed from the ground up, it should be fine.

I will be in the market for a 2015 F150 and never even considered the 2.7L until now....probably still go with the 3.5 though.

Can't argue with Ford's combination of powertrain and structures/materials engineering. They are taking a page from the aerospace industry.

I really would be curious what the MPG was in each of the tests though. Turbo engines can be run for efficiency or they can be run for power. You don't get both at the same time.

No, they are twins, one for each cylinder bank.

I agree, I would like to see the MPG of each as well. Every engine is the same that way though. It takes HP to move loads, and if you use that HP, you have to feed it with fuel, whether it's gasoline or diesel. Diesel has the distinct advantage of having more BTUs per gallon of fuel. The fact that the 2.7L makes 85 more HP means that it will use more fuel if all those ponies are used. I would be more curious over an extended tow on a mix of flat land as well as hills.
