For those retired....what do you enjoy most?

At the risk of going off topic...

Anyone have regrets on being retired?

Regrets, sometimes - the friends I made at work. However, being retired has many benefits also.

The only thing I miss about work is the social things. Going into to work in the morning, having coffee with my friends, making jokes. Basically about 1/2 hour of a 12 hour day..... Getting up at 0 God 30 is something I don't miss. I generally get up about 6 or 7. Then figure out what I want to do that day.

The last 4 years have been a downward spiral as far as work... people, good people are opting to quit.

In 2010 the Hospital I work for was being acquired by a National Hospital Group... the new employee ID cards were already issued and the name on the building was in the process of being changed when a court ordered injunction put everything on hold... not because of anything we did.

Hard to keep a company viable when everything is in limbo and no one onsite can make the simplest of decisions.

Retirement is something I think about often... the only thing is with 24 years in... it's a lot to walk away from.

If I was settled in my forever property... I would be a no brainer.

Just about all my good friends are retired... some for decades and everyone retired younger than I am now...

Of course it helped they all had pensions and most lifetime medical which no one I know that is still working has...

In the back of my mind... I keep thinking about one of my friends... it got to the point where he had enough and retired at 55 and took his pension... had he waited 6 more weeks... he could have taken an additional buyout plus medical...

Hate to put in the time and then come up short by a couple of months.

I have noticed all my retired work friends appear younger after retirement... can't quite put my finger on it... but it is very noticeable in attitude and appearance.

Some travel, others take on home projects and others just spend time with Grandchildren or even parents.

Maybe I should start a new thread on early retirement and Affordable Health Care to see if this tipped the scale in favor of retirement for those on the fence?

Not sorry I retired, but miss the routine and the work that dried up mere months after I left. Miss the guys whose kids I got to know, too.

No enjoyment... but seem to go to alot of funerals.

that "niche market" would be very lucrative .. 3-4 hrs a day ... during off peak traffic time .... 10-2 ... light work ... and my own boss ...

trouble is , it would ramp up real quick and I would need extra hands/ bodies to keep up with the demand ....

and those new bodies would clue in real quick after being trained,,,, and cut out the middle man and strike out on their own ... ( can't blame them really ) ....

tested the waters on this thing and the demand IS there , year round ... but I don't want to be ... winter storms can be harsh ...

Several of my retired friends restore Model A and Model T cars...

They work on them around their schedules and also a social connection...

They had some top notch massage chairs down in the lounge where I worked. Spent thirty minutes every day in them. I miss those, and the free fruit and sodas.

Another thing, being woken at 0200 by SWMBO snoring and being able to go surf TBN without worrying I'll be too tired to go to work. Then taking a nap if I need it in the afternoon.
